I was lucky enough to be part of the first event planned this year to celebrate the 25th birthday of these iconic cars going on sale. 7 of us met up at the Little Thief on the A12 northbound at Feering. We convoyed up to the Bird In Hand pub, two miles away from the Lotus factory at Hethel, Norfolk. There we joined the other 13 cars and after many photo sessions had lunch and trundles along to the factory. The Official Lotus press photographer got us all into the places he wanted and took a series of pictures that we will all get to view later. A tour of the factory and then 11 of us had a convoy back down the A11 to The Angel at Larling for an early evening beverage before setting off for home. Lots of people having to do double, triple and quadruple checks :o as we came past one by one ;D Once we get access to the pics, Malcom should be able to post up as he is far brighter than me :)
3rd May, we are at Duxford with 7 LC,s promised
May 10th will see us as part of the Lotus cars display at Brooklands, not to sure how many will be attending yet
Billing is the clubs big celebration for these cars, hopeing for 50 on the sunday
Brands Hatch is another lotus club invite with a vauge promise that we may get a parade lap around the track. 15th/16th August for this one
Another possability is in October at the Vauxhall Heritage centre but yet to be confirmed

How
smug Proud do all those folk look..... :'(

Odd thing to observe in a photo of 21 of one of my top top favourite cars of all time... but any reason why the banner uses the old 70s Griffin that went out about early-80s, not the square 80s or round Griff that came in in 1990?
Suppose me being in Graphic Design I always gravitate to this sort of banal stuff!

I reckon so. I easily outpaced a 535 yesterday on the dual carriageway. I was doing 70, he was doing about 65, and I easily overtook him. :y

Counting not part of the current edufication syllabub anymore? ;D

The ABS got the written permission of Vx to use the Griffin logo on their stuff back in the dim and distant past. There was an attempt to update the ABS website and forum using the round Griffin about 10 years ago - and then the smelly stuff hit the recirculation equipment at an AGM when it was realised the club didn't have official permission to use that logo.
Another (controversial) point is that most (perhaps all) LC's were delivered with the old 'square' Griffin logo with "VAUXHALL" written under it. The change to the round Griffin occurred in about 1993, and by then all LC/LO's had been built (if not sold).
Suppose me being in Graphic Design I always gravitate to this sort of banal stuff!
If you work in graphic arts, you are presumably aware of the nightmare that is copyright, trade marks etc

;D
Counting never my strong point, no!
Much appreciated for the info :)
I thought the opposite, that when they facelifted the Carlton in 1991(? or a fraction before?) all the Facelifted Carltons features the round type griffin, so all but the earliest LCs had the round griffin? Always happy to learn :)

It's one for the LC anoracks, and even then it causes arguments. If you look at the photo, the three on the left hand side of the front row all have the square badge. Two of them are on private number plates, so I'm not sure what model year they are, but "FKM" is a 1990-91 car on an H. The far right one on the front row is a J reg (91-92), also with a square badge. I have seen a K reg with a square badge too.
So IMHO, all H reg, and probably all J reg LC's should have square badges. It's possible the K and L reg cars had round griffins from the factory. However, if you start looking at chassis numbers you soon come to the conclusion that K and L cars were actually built quite a bit earlier than their reg letters indicate, and presumably just sat in a field at Hethel waiting for buyers. If that's the case then they would have had square badges too.
The square badges are made from unobtanium, and have been for a long time. Therefore when a car has a bonnet re-sprayed (or accident damage repaired ::) ) they tend to end up with round griffins.
