Is it not a chain on the 2.2 petrol?

I stand corrected, I avoided the 2.2 because I thought it was the y22se.

Need cam locking kit ,change water pump and coolant while your at it,all goes ok 1.5-3 hrs depending on how easy bolts come undone on cam belt cover and back plate
Also you will have to remove cam pulleys to get rear cam belt covers off as the waterpump bolts are hidden behind it.

what's in the locking kit on that one, are they twin cam on the 4 pots?

Twin Cam 'locking kit' is just a plastic wedge that I would say makes is easier, but not essential.

Thanks for all the above, as for the cam pulleys being in the way I think that's the Vectra engine, I know the 1.9 Dti is like that.
what about adjustment on the tensioner is it like the V6

Have a read of Haynes re the 2.0 16v belt... Desmond is fundamentally the same, and of course get the OOF dvd too :y

I have changed several. Simpler job than on a V6, follow Haynes, locking tool helpful but not essential. You need to remove the crank pulley on a 2.0 to remove the cover.
Best to change the water pump as it is driven by the cam belt and if it fails cam belt breaks and engine is wrecked. Problem is getting a good one. Vx pump is expensive (£75?), more pumps on e-bay, but I once bought a cheap one and it failed wrecking engine. Euro car parts offer a range, take your pick.

Brother picked up the parts yesterday from the dealers, and I have ordered the locking tool from the bay of Eeeeee. Hope to get it done this week.
Thank you all, does not sound like it will take to long to do :y
-
Only bit to watch out for on doing the job is to make sure you get well on the water pump bolts before trying to loosen them :y

Quite so. I recall some chump pushed his 2.0 into his garage with cam belt off and 4th gear engaged. He got away with it too, but it was bad practice.

As I'm learning to do timing belts at the moment I hope u don't mind me also asking some q's :)
1. Is ther anything to lock the crank on the 2.2s?
2. Where's the mark on the crank for Tdc ?
3. Is the process. . . Turn crank to TDC, lock cams in, remove tensioner, belt, idlers, and water pump. Replace water pump, fit new idlers, fit tensioner loosely, fit belt, tension (I presume this is an Allen key in, turn and tighten nut?) and then turn over a few times to ensure you're all lined up?
