Title: Question for the Computer wizards.

NAS related question. I have a Zyxel NSA325 with 4TB in mirror Raid. Access is via both a Mac and PC. I only use the Mac to access and maintain the NAS.

Of late we have had to grant access to guests to access our router (for internet access). Which sort of automatically grants them access to the NAS.

So how can I password protect the folders on my NAS? Setting up shares is tedious and often causes issues with music streaming etc. Can I do it via the Mac so that certain folders are not accessible to guests or even our aupair?

Any help (in lay language) gratefully accepted.

What router do you have?

I have a Netgear, that allows me to setup different wifi access.

For example I can connect to my router , router name 'netgear1', password 'noddy'
And connect anything I like to 'netgear1' using 'noddy' as the password.

Then I can create another access point, say called 'netgear-guest' , password 'guest'
I can then choose not to share whats on  'netgear1' with 'netgear-guest'.

So if your router can do similar.....then that's a solution for you  :y

You should be able to set up user names & passwords in the NAS to limit access the file shares but I can't see how from the user guide :-\

Nor can I. And therein lies my problem.

Without looking, its likely to be a dumbed down Linux device, where NFS (assuming you are sharing out as just NFS, and not Samba/CIFS) is normally protected by IP only. A default proper Linux nfsd will shove the config in /etc/exports.

If its shared via Samba/CIFs, then you can set access via username/password/
