Prices for these anyone? Solid discs I need.. Assuming dealers are too expensive?
-
you will need brake shoes too :y
-
Is this due to them being destroyed when removing disc's?

Handbrake shoes are sub £20 from a motor factor, so unless you know they're relatively new, it's best to buy and fit some new ones just in case at the same time you replace the disks. You don't want to be taking it all apart again in a few months just to replace the shoes.
I was quoted £57+VAT for rear disks this week (non vented types) from the local motor factors. So new disks shoes and pads ought to be do-able for £100 notes ish.

Is fitting the shoes an easy peasy lemon squeasy job to do?

Err - no. Not exactly difficult, but infuriatingly fiddly and a second set of hands definatley a help.

Why? :-\ As the handbrake only holds an already stationary car (handbrake turns aside) ....... how do they wear out? In 20+ years of Senator/Omega ownership I never came close to needing new handbrake shoes

Because, if they get old enough, the brake shoe material falls off and jams in the bottom of the drum. Potentially jamming the rear hand brake on, although that's unlikely in reality, it does make an almighty thump when it happens.
...no really. Just accept it, and move on. :) (as TB often says ;D )

Never had to replace handbrake shoes ever, did buy a set once from the dealer at about £50 but took them back after cleaning the old ones up. Never had any fall apart.

Pm me as I have pads and discs here.

The only time Iv ever replaced the handbrake shoes is when I completely overhauled the braking system on my Vectra a couple of years ago. I changed all the pads and shoes for Mintex, changed the front discs to drilled grooved and vented 308mm items off the 2.6 GSi and changed the rear discs to drilled grooved but not vented.... The shoes I removed where perfectly OK and didn't even look used, but I know they had done a few miles with the amount of brake dust on them...

Brake shoes, of old, yes, replace when worn as brake pads. Handbrakeshoes are there to stop a wheel that's already stationary from turning. In theory they should last forever, though of course they don't. Mine are about 75% gone after 176thousand miles, so that means they'll be completely knackered in about another 56k (or just under 12 years at current annual mileage) :y
I'm having a complete overhaul very soon of my back brakes too, and will be binning them, but that's more because the backplate is rusted through and has been temporarily 'professionally bodged' to get the handbrake through the mot, and if I'm goign to replace backplate, refurbish calipers, replace discs and pads, springs, pins and cup washers, it hardly makes sense to then stick back on 19 year old shoes. But ordinarily, and on any other car but my baby, I'd service them and leave them so long as they actually function correctly.

Anyone got the current TC price for discs and pads? Both of mine need a set...

You do realise that means removing the rear axle half shafts, which means unbolting the drive shafts, and almost certainly wrecking and replacing the rear wheel bearings?
-
Over 4 Omega's and 100,000's of miles only ever had to replace the handbrake shoes once, that was on my 2.2.
They self destructed at around 170k and 14 years...

Those discs should have been changed well before that... ::)
