Title: A profitable few hours
Post by: Taxi_Driver on 06 July 2008, 21:17:00
Went to a boot sale as a seller today......first time ever (as a seller).......was told to get there early.....v.early........it started at 1pm so I rolled up at 12.20  ;D (But when do TD's do getting there early  ;D )

I can see the point of getting there early now.....as I was shoved in a corner.....all the pitches in the middle had gone.

Took with me DVD's that im never going to watch again, Books im never going to read again......some electrical stuff that im never going to use again and some other useless tat.

I didnt put prices on anything and just made up prices when asked.

Some people will buy anything i found out  ::)

Brought most of books back home (obviously people dont read these days) Tho i nearly sold two Jeremy Clarkson books to a bloke.....who said and i quote' Thats the bloke of Top Gear'   ;D until his SWMBO pointed out he didnt have time to read books...sale scuppered  >:(

Also brought all the electrical gear back, i should taken my invertor to prove they worked (bloke on stall next to me was selling power tools and had one to show they worked) .......oh well you learn.

Bottom line........

Cost me £8 to get in........and took £113

Profit £105 for a few hours......was packed up and gone by 3pm  :y :y :y

I put my feet on the kiddy step we have, you can get an extra 5 minutes that way as it helps the circulation to the legs!  :y

Do you really care if its 20p more and its 5 mins quicker  ;)

Sometimes the shortest routes take a lot longer to get there  ;)

Sony VCR - are you sure it was a Sony and not a turd rebadged as a Sony, a working GENUINE Sony can fetch quite a few hundred.

I expect you had a turd in a box - they can be identified by the letter VHS stamped on the front and can be Hitachi or Samsung - but not Sony.

Last GENUINE Sony VCR I saw on sale was a full size DV deck at a few thousand new. Prior to that Hi8 and SuperBeta.

Sony & Freeview PVRs

The Sony branded one is a cheap generic one with Sony labels and Sony put on the menus and people find it disappointing.

The Sony manufactured and designed by the Sony digital TV team is sold as TVonics, as is a good performer.

All gone mad!

As I've said time and time again, the consumer arm of Sony has entirely lost the plot.  They are living off the brand name, as some people, such as your good self, won't consider other brands.  Much like my eldest brother who will only consider BMW for cars, no matter how poorly built/reliable they are, or how badly they treat him.

I consider Sony when their stuff is good.

The early Wega CRTs were fantastic, their video cameras if you buy correctly are among the best.

But then I have a Pioneer DVD player, Pace PVR, BT Vision PVR, Relisys monitor and portable LCD TV. My HiFi speakers are Castle a old British brand

Sony lost the DVD player sale by not supporting DVD-Audio and to be honest the Pioneer 575 was the best player at its price point at the time.

I tend towards Sony due to good experiences but I am not blinkered, a turd with Sony on it is still a turd.

We got a PS3 due to good experiences with PS2.

My AV Amp got really good reviews, better than both predecessor and sucessor.

You need to buy carefully.

If I was going to buy a DSLR it would be one of three brands, al of which are good photo brands.

If I was going to buy another PVR - almost certainly would be one of the good Korean brands.

Currently my most used VCR is a Sanyo (M40), not that I have used it for a while.

But then while diving around inside, the Sanyo contains a lot of Sony labeled parts (such as specific chips) and I suspect the head disc is Sony supplied due to its limited installation, (nothing but Sanyo M40 PAL & SECAM), inside a Sony quite a few Toshiba chips.

I suspect the Sony chips in the Sanyo are all related to the Beta HiFi sound stage, and the reaason I suspect they are Sony heads is it would be the easiest way in but I am too scared to dismantle the M40 and HF100 to compare, and they are the only 4 head (2 video 2 audio) Beta decks in PAL land.

What I ahve notice with all the older premium brands is a drop of quality at the cheaper ranges, I would not touch anyones cheapo music centres.
