Coming back from Chester tonight,my VX daily driver's mileage went over 130K and it set me thinking about older VX's reliabilty. As I lounged on my leather seat ,cruise on at a steady 80 on a quiet M56,the virtually silent air conditioned cabin reminded of what a pleasure it has been ,using this car over the last three years and 35K miles.I reflected on the low cost of ownership,no faults, just regular servicing,2 sets of tyres and one set of discs and pads.I marvelled at the sound of the Eagles Greatest Hits CD on the fantastic factory fit stereo and noted with satisfaction the 35mpg average showing on the dash display
I remembered the trepidation I felt when the hammer went down at £3K in the BCA auction and I realised I'd bought it a 3yr old car in mint condition BUT with 95K miles already under it's wheels.
Surely, there must be a problem with it ,I kept thinking, but no it drove perfectly and still does to this day.
Maybe the fact that it had belonged to and serviced by Telecom and had never seen the inside of a VX dealers workshop had something to do with its exellent cond when I got my grubby paws on it.
And now your probably thinking, it cant be an Omega and you'd be right!
The Paragon of reliabilty is......an 1999 T reg Astra 1.8 16V cdx auto estate!!

The 'meega is a superb car ,I've owned 3 amongst the 20 odd vx's I've owned over the years ,but the Astra is the most reliable used car I've ever run.It is also totally rustfree after 6 years and 130k.
It will probably blow up tomorrow! ;D ::)

:-? and noted with satisfaction the 35mpg average showing on the dash display ....
That was the bit where I knew you either had a very very long nose or you weren't in an Omega V6
(or you were writting the sales script for eBay ;) )

Had a Mk1 Astra for 5 years... long time ago... I heavily modified it over time (bigger engine, gearbox, suspension, etc..) but none of the original parts ever went wrong!
Well apart from the heater blower, but that was just replacing the resistor pack so easy job with a soldering iron...
