Being British is about driving in a German car to an Irish pub for a Belgian beer. Then on your way home grabbing an Indian curry or a Turkish kebab, sitting on a Swedish sofa watching American programmes on a Japanese tv. Only in Britain can you get an Italian pizza to your house faster than an ambulance. We are suspicious of anything foreign.
In Britain banks leave both doors open but chain the pens to the counter. Supermarkets make sick people walk to the back of the shop for their prescriptions whilst healthy people get their fags at the front.
What a funny lot we are. NOT. :(

Cheer up Steve. Shows what a cosmopolitan, multicultural, tolerant lot we are really doesn't it? :)

Let's not forget that at most hospitals the patients have to drag themselve right across the hospital from the expensive car park whilst the consultants park free right outside the doors >:(

Not in Barclay's! You can have plenty of free pens there from dispensers filled with cheap biro's on every counter surface. Mind you with bank charges as they are, so they should! ;D ;D ;D :y
As for everything else you state Steve it is true, and applicable to almost every 1st world country! Elsewhere though they can have British pubs / resturants / tv shows / films, etc, and to get to them you will fly in aircraft consisting of British parts, along with American, French, German, Italian................! ;D :y

Yeah, then the ticket machine only takes coins and you have to walk to the other side to the security office to pay!

Out of interest -- what make a person "english" ( or any other nationality for that matter) ?
Is it their parentage, heritage, genetics or merely the spot on which they were born ??
I was born in england, my father is welsh, the family spent the last 150 years in Wales, the 600 years before that in Cornwall and prior to that france. Can I just put "Confused" on the forms ???

That actually applies to most "English" and "British" Holy Count
:y A large number of us are related to Roman's, the 'Barbarian's; Huns, Franks, Vandals, Visigoths, etc, then Vikings, "modern" French, Germans, Italians, etc, etc. With my family it is Roman, Norman / French, English, and of course, I am proud to say, was born in Malta GC. My daughter's children, my two grandchildren, will add Italian to their list as she married a (gorgous!) Italian, and one was born in the Republic Of Ireland! "Confused" could be a good definition for many of us! ;D ;D :y :y

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is a nation.
England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are countries within that nation.
Your 'nationality' is therefore British, not that of the home country from which you originate.....
:y
-
Ok so i got my terminology wrong!

No Albitz, Southern Ireland is the Republic; Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom, and very much a loyalist state, hence the battle's of the 1968 to 1999 period. ;)
STOP PRESS : Sorry Albitz! Just realized that is actually what you meant! ;)
