Title: Corsa auto gear lever locking solenoid problem
Post by: shyboy on 16 May 2015, 10:59:33
SWMBO has a 2009 1.4 petrol auto Corsa 'Design' and the gear lever solenoid is misbehaving intermittently. The solenoid plunger doesn't always operate to enable the lever to be moved out of Park and we have to use the emergency device under the gear leaver housing which obviously has to be left in the unclipped position for convenience.
Sometimes it doesn't work at all, but sometimes will jump out OK but immediately return to the locked position. I know it works on the brake pedal switch and an ignition switch together but I'm wondering if anyone can suggest the most likely source of the fault. Switches, or the solenoid itself? No doubt trial and error is the answer but I'm no expert on testing electrical circuits etc. and the wife's arthritis makes it almost impossible for her to use the emergency device as it requires two hands.

It was the brake pedal switch on my Omega when I had similar problems ...... it'll be the cheapest option of the two & far easier to fit if you want to try & rule one or the other out

Solenoid is knackered, you want 93191238 at around £65.00 retail. Not a very commom problem but we do replace a few of them

Update just for interest.
It turned out to be neither switches nor solenoid, just a bad solder connection on one of three wires on the back of the gear lever unit.
seems to be working fine now.
