a good while ago i agreed to buy my mate's sister's car, a very nice and tidy well looked after black Vauxhall Corsa 1.2, because i know its a very VERY good car and well looked after, 51 plate, under 50k miles, an extra set of alloys, and i can buy it around 18th July when her new car is delivered, i kept her constantly updated telling her that i'm definately going to buy it as nothing else has come close regarding the condition/price comparison
however, i have come across another one quite local to me, but its a 53 plate, facelifted 04 model, with less than 40k on it, for less than £100 more! the seller says there's nothing at all wrong with the car and i suspect they've just seriously undervalued it
if it's perfect as described, do i buy it and let the girl down who i've convinced for the last couple of months i'd be having her car??
-
It's an awkward one, but if you have told her you will have it then you now have to look at it from her point of view.
What if she had said she would buy your car and then let's you down 2 week's before you were expecting your car.
It's tough, but only you can decide what is best for you to do. :-/ :-/

Is your mate's sister important to you in your life, and do you also treasure your life.....and body??!! :'( :'( What is your mate like?!
Best of luck Danny....you must realisize that you cannot win with women involved! ;D ;)
-
Buy the other car....after all she"s a female so just pat her on the head and give her anything thats pink and im sure she"ll be fine, probably even forget you was buying her car.
;D

its my mate's sister
i'm just sliiiiiiiiiiiiightly short of cash to buy both, otherwise i'd do that and sell one on, that way everyone's happy!
if i'd sold my omega i'd be able to get both
-
Is she a hottie? If so, buy her car.
If not, tell her you've found a better car, in better knick and she should reduce her price!
Have a drive of the other one, it might have been thrashed for its 40 thousand miles unlike the other, which might drive as tight as a virgins daughter?
Surely you'd want the newer, facelifted motor though :-/
-
exactly!
she is a nice lady, but my girlfriend's nicer, and her boyfriend looks 'ard!!
they were offered £100 less than my price for px on her new astra so i know she wont budge, which should mean at the same time she wont care if i dont want it, but if she's told VX she's selling privately and has anything already signed up ready then its a big inconvenience
when buying a new car that's subject to a delivery wait, would they not even complete any paperwork until the car is ready to be delivered?
-
worth a look at the other one IMHO. Then you can decide which one you really want. (as per comment - it may have been trashed/thrashed - hopefully obviously in that case). Presumably you know your mates sister has looked after it? That must count for something..
-
Best to buy the car you KNOW about. This mate's sisters car sounds like there wont be any shocks coming your way as you know some of its history. The other car may be cheaper but do you know it as well?
I think the other car is cheap for a reason mate so tred carefully. Get it inspected and HPI checked (this all costs). Take it for a good long test drive and include a few average bumpy roads.
Your choice mate but i know which one i would go for :)
-
much appreciated for that, i have my suspicions, as you would with any car seemingly too good to be true, the guy hasnt got back to me, mileage is only 35k on it, but his lack of reply might be all i need to tell me to steer clear! but for its price, i'm happy paying for checks on top!!
the lady driver i agreed to buy the other one off, she's about my age, and a very sensible mature girl, been driving for a good while and is upgrading to either an astra VXR or the top engine SRi, her partner and his brother are both mechanics, i know he would have looked after it for her, and she's only really used it to go to and from work
looks like i'm sticking with my original choice, and besides, i could facelift it myself at some point!

Yep Danny -- I, too, would stick with the car you originally promised to buy --- better the devil you know and you have really already agreed to buy it. As has been mentioned before -- put yourself in her shoes -- how would you feel to be let down at the eleventh hour ?
The newer car could be a pig's ear and cost you in the long run.

it'll never cost as much as this omega, i stand to lose about £2000 by selling it

Talk to both and try and get a good price.... then buy both! ;D

I've always abided by the motto "An Englishman's word is his bond". If you said you'd take it (not might, but will), then you are morally obliged to do so in my book. Plus the fact that, as others have noted, it's a car you know. :y
