just had this e-mailed to me by some body who is outraged. just wondered what you peeps thought.
An education authority is investigating claims that two school pupils were punished for refusing to kneel down and pray to Allah during a religious education lesson.

Parents complained after the boys, Year 7 pupils at Alsager High School in Cheshire, were given detention for being "disrespectful" to the prophet, the Congleton Chronicle reported.
Parent Sharon Luinen told the paper: "This isn't right, it's taking things too far.
"I understand that they have to learn about other religions, I can live with that, but it is taking it a step too far to be punished because they wouldn't join in Muslim prayer. Making them pray to Allah, who isn't who they worship, is wrong and what got me is that they were told they were being disrespectful."
The school is believed to have received complaints from five sets of parents since the alleged incident on Tuesday.
Another parent, Karen Williams, said: "I am absolutely furious my daughter was made to take part in it and I don't find it acceptable. I haven't got a problem with them teaching my child other religions and a small amount of information doesn't do any harm.
"But not only did they have to pray, the teacher had gone into the class and made them watch a short film and then said 'We are now going out to pray to Allah'. And then two boys got detention and all the other children missed their refreshments break because of the teacher."
She added: "My child has been forced to pray to Allah in a school lesson."
The incident is believed to have taken place during a practical demonstration of how Allah is worshipped.
Cheshire County Council confirmed that parents had complained about the lesson, and said the circumstances of the incident were to be "thoroughly" looked into.

may i just add that the person who sent me this is my brother in law who is himself a muslim. he is outraged that it appears his religeon is being forced upon peolpe.
-
They certainly should not be punished! Their fundamental human rights have been broken by a right to choice and freeddom.
I would be looking to seek compensation and to shake up the school. Any forced religion is a dangerous timebomb.
-
If anyone tried to punish me for not engaging in muslim prayer, I'd tell them Foxtrot Oscar.... what I do and believe is my choice.
I believe strongly in respecting diversity BUT that is out of order - if it was my kids I'd be seeking legal advise.

this should be shown in classrooms ;)

holy poo (no pun intended) thats not far from where I come from!
All I can say is that if the shoe were on the other foot the head teacher would have already resigned!

Again... society has reaced the level where we do not see individuals. we are now judged as cohorts... this in itself is a sign of change... which breeds ignorance to others as individulas.

This is England. Incidents like this make me mad, especially when religion is the root cause of most of the world's troubles, Israel, N.Ireland, Iraq, etc etc. If we are to be politically correct pupils should have the option to walk out and return to class when the praying ( to any God ) is over. Religion should be a choice not a compulsion. I'm a Catholic and choose to be, all pupils should be enlightened about other beliefs but not forced to do it.

f*ckin hilarious. love jeff dunham, got most of his dvd's ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I always opted out of RE at school. I would rather express my beliefs on a personal level: that being that when I am asked for my religion that I state Science. Not that science knows all, but it certainly gets my approval as a basis of faith.
What I am aying is each to their own... why cant peps just live and let live?! It annoys me dealing with the consequences of changing society with some of the poor folk I have come across over the years.
-
i have no religious belief yet i respect every person's belief in their chosen religion, surely THAT is what should be taught at school!!
-
Well, we've only brought it upon ourselves, years of giving in to one and all, what do we expect :(.
And James, why should the thought of punishment make you want to dance with a bloke called Oscar :o ;D ;D.
-
Religion & education are & should be seperate issues & never the twain should meet. These two pupils being excluded is rather' outrageous! >:( ::)
-
Just think how the sh1t would fly if a muslim was forced to attend a synagogue or "pray" in a catholic church ...
Total hypocrisy and stupidity
-
Just remind me exactly which country we live in :-/ :-/ >:( >:(

exactly what he says. religion is a choice. it shouldnt be forced upon anybody. like others have said, imagine if it was the other way around.
-
What would happen if it was the other way round - two Muslims refusing the "Christian" assemblies I used to attend? Nothing at a guess - and thats the way it should be.
I'm an atheist now, by the way - although technically i'm agnostic but went to a CofE school so i don't want to get dragged into Religious arguments...
-
I'd take it to the top, I would have it out with the head master but I'd probably end up getting arrested, I feel really strongly about this.
-
I really could RANT on this topic but i undertook not too. Suffice to say would we be afforded the same tolerances in other said countries???? >:(
-
Actually Judaism Christianity and Islam are all related religions
Jews are the original base, then the son of God is Jesus lot - which includes CofE and Catholics, then finally the ones where Jesus is a prophet along with a bloke called Mohammed
But if they were CofE they should have adopted the usual church stance and called him god - now that would have stumped the RE teacher ;D
I beleive that education of the various major faiths is usefull but not to force trying it! What is next - chopping off useful bits?

Seems fair but it would be educational to watch - anyway they all worship the same Diety/bloke/force ect

This is outrageous ! I would not expect any child ( or adult come to that) to be forced to worship a God that was not his --- not only a Christian being forced to worship a Muslim God, but I would not expect a Muslim to be coerced into worshipping a Christian God --- it is grossly disrespectful to both religions!

It's all the same *** God anyway - just different ways of doing it ::)

Also hasn`t a top judge said some shairia laws be adopted in this country as they would benefit us!!! i can just see it now you go to saudi arabia and tell em you will adopt some UK or US laws and they would very quickly make you leave their country...Why is it we allow anyone to dictate to us but when you stand up and say no i don`t want this your a racist or a biggot...I really can see this country erupting somewhere down the line and worst case scenario we become like Germany in the 1930`s and 1940`s...This the United Kingdom you came here to live you came here to work and live in peace you became British citizens..I do not mind if you live here all i ask is respect my culture and country as i would if i lived in your parent country....I am personally sick to death hearing all of this crap and when you investigate it you usually find its us thats doing it!!! beacause we think its what muslims or jews or jedi knights want(yes that is a religion)we are reserved we are stiff and stuck in the past sometimes but that is the british way.I have been to many peoples houses from differing cultures in my various jobs....I had a muslim gent slam the door in my face because i could not remove my saftey boots whilst delivering his 5 domestic products...then i swapped a usa style f/f over for 1 of the most pleasant muslim gents i have met he could not do enough for us i do believe if we had not left his house we would of become part of the family he was that pleasant and hospitable but its just not just muslims at fault we all are for letting common sense go....

Any religion is purely a belief or faith. No grounds for proof exist because their aren't any, no matter how strongly or fanatically any follower of any religion argues otherwise. However another question arises. If you are parents of a newborn or young child & follow any given religion, diet etc. is it right despite all best intentions to inflict your beliefs on your children? If you're a vegetarian is it right not to let your child eat meat when they're too young to decide for themselves....would you feed your dog dried vege mix when he wants pedigree chum & a marrow bone from the butchers? :(

See you at the pulpit on Sunday then Mark.
Shall i bring some tinnies?????????? :D

Even when I was at school in the early 80's non christains were excused form assembly if there were any religious overtones, iirc only 4-5 people in the whole school in those days.
Couple of Jehovah's witnesses iirc

I was waiting for the ‘Punch Line’ :-[
Absolutely appalled by these events, when I realised it was not a Joke.
I think others have covered any other thoughts I may have on this matter. >:(

prosecute the teacher for religious discrimination/hate crimes, sack the headmaster for losing control of his school ,take the school to the european court of human rights, and then send them to saudi arabia to punish pupils who wont pray to jesus >:( >:( >:(
