Title: Any gardeners in the house
Post by: tunnie on 25 May 2015, 13:11:55
What is this plant?  :-\

Cleared away an area and it's taken off. Wondering if I should get the strimmer out, or let it grow if it will look nice soon.

If its not grass, its clearly a weed.

And I said those very words as she grumbled about me attacking one of her roses with the strimmer.

It may well just be a weed, but looking at those leaves it could possibly be.... but only possibly,Himalayan Balsam, quite a nice plant, but a bloody nuisance as it seeds every where after the flowering stage. So it's well worth bearing that in mind :y :y

Thanks. Googled photos, can see where you are coming from on the leaf shape. Nothing like that was there before though.

Strimming is easy though  ;D

I cleared this area few weeks back, planning to grow some veg. But these things have shot up

It will take you longer to get the strimmer out/strim/put away ... than it will to pull them up....plus if you strim they will grow back as you haven't got the root up  ;)

Bit of research suggests it's a sunflower type plant, should give some nice flowers in the summer.  8)

Thanks for help  :y

As for the Knotweed suggestions, given the serious impact that could have on a property. I find that a shameful suggestion.
