Title: Omega Replacement
Post by: Mr Gav on 27 May 2015, 18:04:30
I`ve been pondering about this for some time about what to get next and I`ve decided a Nissan 350z fits the bill nicely, it`s not my final choice but it`s one I keep coming back to.

I don`t need a four door saloon or acres of luggage space and as it`s a V6 and rear wheel drive and quite small I like it.

So what are your thoughts gentlemen?

Yeah a guy on my street had one a couple of years ago and we had to push him on the flat one day in about 2" of snow, no good at all.

The ecu used to change when it wanted to and rarely when it needed to and that was just every day driving not pressing on, tried three different ecu`s each with a different ident but none were good, the best one was from Craig Schofield, which ddi me until I removed the rather thing  ;D

I thought about the Monaro or a VXR8 and not ruled then out yet, I'll probably have a look through the classifieds this weekend and see what's within my budget. I crossed the Audi Quattro off the list last night, I really want one but prices are out of my reach now although it would be an investment. Nothing's concrete yet but the 350 is still at the forefront of my mind, got to wait for the lotto cheque to clear first ;)

Yeah, not a massive seller and the arse end doesn't quite look right, they sorted that with the 370z but that's at the top end of my budget and I've not made my mind up wether to push that far.

2 seater, firm ride and a very heavy clutch are my memories. Sounds very nice and quite rapid, but absolutely no space for anything. Maybe as a second, no third car?

Cheers for that, I have use of a works van for my daily driver so it`s a weekends and evening car  :y

I think I need to find a local dealer that has one and get a test drive  ;)

No room in the boot for anything but the already fitted strut brase or whatever the hell it is.

That would make a nice Omega replacement.. Proper number of cylinders, proper gearbox..

15 mpg around town, or the equivalent of 18 with gas. ;D

Yes, but how much of our driving on a daily basis counts as 'on a run'. Even the motorways are slow and stop/start most of the time.

I would think he was lying.

Mid thirties on a 4.4 V8 that even BMW's lab only managed to get 29mpg out of? I cannot see how he could better the manufacturers claim unless that was on a long downhill stretch with a tail wind.  ;D

And that brace is a pain in the ****. You cannot get anything into the boot. I would certainly try before you buy.

That's one thing that puts me off, I would at least like to be able to get a couple of weekend bags in there. The 370 doesn't have that brace though so I'm back to stretching my budget  :-\

So would a later 350, I`d be looking at the 07 plate onwards with the HR engine and better interior, I think thats when it got satnav.

Are you sure? What do Renault use it in? Although the smaller Nissans share a lot with Renault(he typed with a shudder!), the Z is more international.

They look good to me, but I'd rather have a Monaro.

I love them both and thats the problem, Monaro is a LOT more practical but a good VXR is in the same ball park as a 370z which I really like.

370z particularly with the Nismo pack is lurid. Almost like it has bits of plastic stuck on. I do like the 370z, not sure I could live with the chaviness factor Link (http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201503111606183/sort/default/postcode/br29ed/radius/1500/channel/cars/usedcars/onesearchad/used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew/model/370_z/page/1/make/nissan/keywords/nismo?logcode=p). A VXR8 on the other hand.... hmmm!

I couldn`t live with that, it`s awful, don`t like THIS (http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201505163512117/sort/default/model/vxr8/onesearchad/used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew/channel/cars/usedcars/radius/1500/make/vauxhall/postcode/ls53lw/page/1?logcode=p) either.
