Hi all
as posted previously the 3.2 MV6 has developed an oil leak , which I think must be the rear crankshaft seal .
Oil is making it's way to the very small 10mm x 3mm oblong hole at the very bottom of the bell housing . But . . .
Oil is also seeping out of the bottom of the crankshaft sensor or rather the hole it locates in .
I removed the crank sensor & it was covered in oil , .
I also put my finger in the said hole & finger came out covered in oil.
My question is this : does this point to a definate rear crankshaft oil seal failure & is it usual, if it has failed, for oil to be around the crankshaft sensor & it's locating hole ?

Cs sits in the crank area. So it will be covered in oil from the sump etc.
If oil is leaking from the sensor and running down from elsewhere, then it's most likely that the sensor o rung needs replacing. If available? Or some sealant.

Thanks Mr. G . . . strange but this crank sensor seems a bit of a slack fit in the hole . There is an o ring on it though.
Will check it all out tomorrow . . . now thinking oil is seeping past the o ring & running down block & making its way to the
bottom of bell housing . There is no oil showing when the 2 rubber bungs are removed from the bell housing :-\

If there is engine oil in the bell housing/behind those bungs then that's rear crank seal, or not hopefully.
Cs is on the sump side of the rear crank seal so is also part of keeping engine oil in, along with front crank seal, dip stick tube seal, oil pressure switch, oil level sensor, top and bottom sumps. All of which can leak obviously.
I'd remove the sensor, clean the hole and sensor of oil, then use some cam cover goo to add to the existing o ring.
...but question arises, is it the correct sensor, if its fit is questionable?

No oil that I can see or feel behind those bungs Chris. Hopefully it is this Cs leaking and making it's way down to bottom of BH. Cs says Bosch on it . . . but that means nothing nowadays ::) ::) I have an old Cs with what looks like a good O ring, so might put that on with a bit of black stuff as well . . .fingers crossed eh ? :-\ :-\
Breather clean not really due . .but will do it as well :y

If the cs wire rooting is in the original place, down the back of the engine and still clipped to the oil cooler pipes then there I guess there is a good chance it's still original.
Odd it's a loose fit if so.
Got to be worth another ring and some goo. :y

Yer . . strange that . . . I've changed a few & normally have to prise them out with a small flat blade :-\ :-\
We'll see what happens when I try what you have suggested :-\

bugger . . . still leaking as before . . . . cannot look again until tomorrow . . but looking more like rear crankshaft seal :'( :'(

He's just done my front crank seal , excellent job :y
