Why not remove the bottom half of the airbox and fix the cold air intake to the K&N ;)

yeah was thinking along those lines - what i really want is to re-route the cold air feed to a lower forward facing position to get a bit of 'Ram' effect.
not alot of room behind headlight though :-?
-
Don't got to LOW, just in case you go through some water :o :-[, try to get it by the side of the Rad, but in front of it

summer cold feed only - winter air is cold and dense enough :y

Sound awesome but will kill the airflow sensor and make the engine run bad done it to my mv6 and the veccy and both ran worse! best thing to do is fit a panel filter same noise bit quiter mind but with a proven 4bhp increase instead of a proven 10bhp decrease and a £250 bill for a new air sensor read on vvoc.com for more info!
nice to see a fellow herefordian on the site though ive got a silver MV6 S reg
-
May be so, but don't take the feed from the bottom of the engine bay, I've kill two Vauxhall engines because the air intake is via this route, do as the Germans do, take it from in of the Rad
-
has the mig got the same air intake as a vectra?
3 pipes one from front grill one from front wing and one from down below and all meet up? into the same pipe just before the rubber hose?

sounds great (intake roar beats exhaust noise anyday!!) wasn't sure about airflow sensor as filter is in roughly the same place so shouldn't effect pulse waves?? (black art :-[)
was going to buy a panel filter years ago but never bothered and as had 57i sat in garage thought i'd have a go :P
better get researching :D
Are you on the OOF map?

no 1 only - from behind grill pointing sideways towards nearside light

nah i dont know how to get this map working!! i live in burghill m8y!
im only going on what the vectra is like but it did kill my maf on my SRi Veccy but i see what you mean about the migs as it is very different to the vectras as the 57i bolts straight onto the maf but doesnt on the mig
my mv6 has all the roar its quite funny as the saxo racers cant believe how a grandads car sounds better than theres and has no big bore!

nothing better than wiping the smirk off young saxo pricks faces ;) get a real car boys ;D ;D ;D
just down the road from you in Bobblestock (catch me on the SAS bypass tomorrow testing my new filter LOL ;D ;D ;D)

we will have to meet up for a show n shine! compare omegas lol!
good road is that especially after 11pm no1s on it then and flat out = mach 1

would love to show and shine but the old girls embarassingly rusty now (arches doors etc :'()
brilliant road - one run down to the credenhill roundabout to make sure all's clear then back up at full chat - can't mention max speed (few cops on here ;))
-
yeah my migs rusted too bottom passangers door and arches and spot on drivers door :@ :@ been quoted £400 by grind n shine to put it right quote included spraying all the black bits silver aswell

Driving along, the cone filter will suck in air at ambient temperature.
Problem is town driving where temp can increase 5/10 above ambient.Even worse when stuck in traffic, where the temperature drawn in by the engine can hit 40/50 degrees (especially in hot weather) and when the fans kick in, it forces hot air up into the filter at high temp.

yeah gonna get real bad heat soak from engine bay - but have you ever felt how hot the standard air box gets in there?
only an idea coz i thought it looked trick :D :D :D

I've replaced the whole airfilter box with a BMC carbon dynamic intake filter.
Am trying ways of "insultating" the intake piping from aborbing heat.
I could do a test of seeing what temp the actual air intake is at the throttle...comparing standard intake against modified.

went for a blat yesterday with my K&N bodge
ok at idle - stuck it in sports mode and kicked down...
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHH :o
sounded awsome ;D ;D ;D
-
would adding a heat shield help?
http://www.osaka-autodesign.com/default.asp?contentID=701
-
Saying that, the angle of the filter in the omega is such a way that the heat shield probably wouldn't help!!
-
Makes no difference where the intake is, these destroy the MAF sensor because they are oiled. Not worth using one for the sake of some extra noise. Those who believe they get more power from an induction kit are on a cloud.
-
What performance filter isn't oiled then? I have spoken to Pipercross and they said it would be ok with the MAF sensor, it only kills them if the filter is over oiled/cleaned incorrectly!
There has to be a reasonable way without the risk if people choose the noise over performance!
-

Yep. Standard filter is huge and draws in cold air effectively. Not worth messing about.
I rebuilt the engine on my previous car (non-omega) and after a while started to notice it was quite sprightly until it reached normal operating temperature and then there was a noticeable drop off in power. Turned out some of the intake ducting had come away and it was breathing air from the engine bay. As soon as the thermostat opens this air is warm, whether in traffic or moving, due to heat from the radiator. Cool air makes a very worthwhile difference to power output.
Would be interesting to compare the live data between a standard filter and a cone one day, to see how much heat they do pick up. Could even calculate the drop in power.

I really do understand and respect what everyone says on here, and I believe its all true!! Still my heart wants to wack one on just for the fun of it!! my wallet says no though!! don't wanna loose £200 on new sensors!! lol!!
We could all stop playing around with filters and supercharge them like the germans do! they don't mess about!! LOL ;D

Watched quite a few of these videos of the supercharged omega on youtube. Sounds cool but there are no videos of the car actually moving at any point. I want to see it moving before I'm convinced it's a good idea or not.
-
Yeah I know what you mean!!! The sound is very unique and awsome!! Never heard anything like it!!! Must take allot of work to put a supercharger on em!!!

Take the airbox out, take the airtube out of the airbox & put the airtube back in place....
