....and everyone on here for direct or indirect help with my rear wheel bearing.
What a shit of a job that is. With no strength left in my arms it took me an hour to get the hand brake shoe spring slips back on. ....AN HOUR! ;D
Been at it since 12.30 since getting back from Sindon machine mart for spline bit set and big bugger circlip pliers. Plus hbv and wiper mech stuff, but I am bolardsed. Completely.
But thank you gents. Nick I did have to grind a bit off the bearing tool lug, but it worked well. Lazytinker for helping yesterday, and Al for picking up the phone after a night shift :-[ sorry :y
-
I didn't type lazytinker btw ;D
-
I had to get up anyway ::) Glad it's all back together though :y
-
Not the nicest of jobs but still... Done now!
I didn't do much anyway :-[
And I guess someone has been playing... Lazytinker indeed! :D
-
Chris, adjusting the tool doesn't matter as it was hardly precision engineering. I do have a design for a better one that will work on the bearing as well, but need some dimensions that will require removing a hub so it can wait.
Why was reassembling the handbrake difficult? Or rather, why didn't you assemble it before refitting the hub when it's much easier? The best brake tool I've bought is Sealey's VS0351, which is simply a small hook costing about £5. Worth every penny.
I did warn you about the circlip!

youd get sacked at my place if you took that long on a spring!!!
hahaha only kidding. great job. :y
out of interest was there a visible state of thebearing? i.e. did it come out in ''parts'' or did you get a butchers at thebearings inside etc etc?
-
There was evidence of water ingress but no play in the bearing, just roughness and noise.

Yes I was too focused on the bearing side of things, and my concern of getting the ready for the morning. Having not done one before.
It'll be quicker next time. (Lob it at a garage ;D )
Yes the circlip wasn't too bad, it just needs to fully compressed before it will go in. Something the pliers didn't allow initially, without slight modification. Then it just went straight in.
I wasn't going to bother with it this weekend, but that Lazytinker led me astray.

Yes that quite right Steve. Never hurt anyone. Did it! .....Steve! ::) ;D

Errm... I think SWMBO and I were planning on leaving about 3 hours earlier thank we did but someone had a bright idea!

Your fault. Trouble maker. ;)

Has the Woom Woom disappeared now ???
-
result :y
-
Has it cured the problem though, or still early days?
-
Yes it has. All quiet and silent again, no more woom woom. Can now hear the squeaky tank(lpg) valve every time I turn right. Sounds like a small bird in the boot. ::)
And the odd thing, given there was no play, the crashy rear end has gone too. ???
-
I don't understand how the crashiness has gone :-\ But glad it has :y
And pleased the bearing noise has gone...
-
Indeed. There was a bit of flex in the wheel position, but we presumed that was the arm or its bushes. Should of checked it against the other side really, but hay ho.
Suspect the other side won't be far behind. Pffffffff.....
