Title: Nuisance calls.
Post by: Field Marshal Dr. Opti on 01 June 2015, 11:23:54
These recorded messages are really starting to piss me off. >:(

Apparently I need to claim against Lloyds, Nat West, etc..etc, for wrongly selling  me their  piss poor financial products. Financial products such as PPI. We now get five or six of these calls each day. >:(

This morning the call came in at 6.36 A.M. >:(

The crazy thing is this.....when I dialed 1471 to see if the shitheads had left a number I was surprised to hear my own telephone number. ???

Usually I am unable to get a contact number.

I remember listening to a radio 4 programme about a filtering system that gathered intel through it's users and was a non-profit thing aimed at OAPs.  There was some legal wranggling too but I cannot for the life of me remember the details.  Very interesting concept and could work.

I have long though about devloping a scraper to glean info off of those telepest forums and then sending the data through a AI engine to determine the accuracy and develop a live database for such a feature.  I have the AI engine that can understand freeform text already......

I have a posh phone setup that redirects certain numbers to a recorded message of my making. Witheld numbers have to jump through a hoop to get to me :)

VoIP an option?

Certainly when I'm abroad (always for pleasure), I use VoIP successfully, either via Sipgate or via an extension off Asterisk.

I never answer the house phone straight away.I always let it run to answerphone, then if it's someone I know/want to talk to I pick up,if not I just ignore it.

A while back there was some bloke who rigged up a system that actually made him money off these nuisance calls . And another one that took the nuisance callers to court and won .

Not for incoming and especially where I work in Lyon which is in the arse-end of nowhere.....

bt6500 = peace and quiet 99% of the time

Annoyingly shit phones apart from that very valuable feature though, the newer 8500 etc may well be better

That's probably a bit unfair. Son of a friend of mine was sent along from the job centre and told, if he turned down the job, he would lose his benefits.

Friend of mine got in a bit of a mess and was on benefits for a while.  :(

The job centre did the same and he had to take this Call Centre job or lose his benefits.  He's been doing it for a few months now, earns reasonable money and really enjoys it!  :y

They're just folk earning a living at the end of the day and while it's fair game to play along with them for a while, being nasty to them isn't on IMO.  ;)

Sorry disagree completely , if I want to buy something it is my choice I do not want strangers ringing me on my phone trying either to get me to purchase something or more probably try to dishonestly obtain personal financial information from me.

Any good?
http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/index.html

I find it helps after a month or so. Always seem to get calls around AA renewal time. First from the AA themselves, then from any Tom Dick or Harry they pass the number onto.

Anyway, link works for me on a domestic line, at least.

Trouble is, its an industry body, set up and run by the companies that make the calls. So they won't ever take action.

Whilst I believe it helped on one of my lines (apart from the recorded calls, which TPS doesn't cover), the other line increased sales calls since putting on TPS, and gets a barrage of recorded calls which it never used to get.  The cynic in me says they sell or pass on the database (as they would have to for it to work) and it becomes a valuable resource for the tele marketers.

I've yet to have these mongrels deal with any complaint.

I never asked them to call me. I don't want their calls.  I have registered that I don't want their calls. I have no sympathy for any abuse these people get.

.    Agree with you 100% I have had 3 calls in the last 2 hours  I spoke utter nonsense to a woman with an Indian accent  ranging from have I won the car I'm so excited I'm pissing my pants  & then I asked questions about her parents she seemed puzzled when I asked if her father had recovered after being mauled by a tiger. She rang off eventually but called back again after about 10 minutes , I asked if the Indian restaurant had received our booking for Saturday & she hung up again.

How on earth do these companies make any money ? Seems to me that their calls are either not answered or the callers are abused  :( What worries me more is if you do have a claim and tell them to opps off that they may make fraudulent claims in your name  :-\

I haven't ever complained. But a month after registering, no more calls.

Like you I was sceptical about entering my number on another site, but how else? As said a blame the AA in my case, it's a yearly cycle.

Just one question about the calls though what is the point of the ones that ring and hang up as soon as you pick up no one speaks
I get the idea of the PPI claim ones annoying as they are just not the silence on the end of the phone seem pointless to me

Lots of call centres use automated dialling systems.  If no one is available at their end to talk to you, then you just get silence.....  ;)

Alternatively, you have a poltergeist!  :o  :D  ;D

I registered with the TPS a few years ago but still get calls from UK call centres. Have now started threatening these callers that i will contact the TPS and can i have their company details, they then mostly ring off. Also, am now getting calls to my mobile and very few people have that number. When i ask how they obtained it they also go quiet and hang up. A bunch of bl**dy timewasters. >:(

I was getting 3 or 4 calls a day on my mobile.....which I didn't answer because I didn't recognise the number....I google the numbers and if they are call centres selling ppi refunds etc, I use the block number feature on my phone....its reduced the calls greatly now  :y
