Title: Been tinkering...
Post by: BazaJT on 05 June 2015, 21:33:10
...with the motorbike tonight.Fitted a brand new battery and in line fuse.Ignition on the "N" light lights up,the horn  works and the starter spins the motor over, but no spark at the plug and no headlight, taillight, brake light or indicators! So further investigations needed all round, the trouble being vehicle electrics of any kind are a black art to me!!!

Could it be the CDI has packed up or kill switch fault? Not familiar with this model so just mentioning the usual suspects. Not sure how you'd test the CDI without replacing.  :-\

I know what the CDI is although I'm not sure where it's situated.I'm not sure how much of a bearing it would have on things but the bike had been dropped prior to my buying it and the speedo is broken.Guy I bought it fom told me that he'd put an new CDI on it[but that could be so much bull of course]what is obvious is that he'd put a new plug lead/coil and spark plug on it,so if he told the truth I suppose that would leave either the rectifier and/or the stator/magneto thing. Will have to see what I can do as far as checking wiring with regard to lights not working and go from there. But then being a Lexmoto it must be remembered that it's a cheapo Chinese jobbie!

CDI normally sits behind that.  :y  He may well have fitted a new one as they are cheap enough.  :y

If its been dropped, is the kill switch ok? Does it have a kill switch?  :-\

Only kill switch I know to is the red bit on the handlebar switches near the front brake lever. Is that the one you mean?

Yes, that's the one I meant.  :y May be unrelated though.  :-\
Hope you get it sorted.  :y

I should have added that the kill switch wires go to the CDI and break the connection to kill the spark.

Thanks for the info I'll check that bit out.Abit of further tinkering has shown that neither of the rear indicators were actually connected,so that may have sorted why they didn't work also the longer of the two filaments in the rear light bulb is broken so a new bulb needed there and the headlight bulb is stuck solidly into its holder so a new holder and bulb needed there too!Still will get there in the end I'm sure.
