So bit by bit the manual 2.5 is coming to pieces , last owner admitted that he never serviced it in 3 years ::) Strangely all the breather system was NOT blocked :o not even the small breather on the breather box !
Alas all 6 plug wells were full to the top with oil and the plugs looked like they had been in a good 10 years :( But it ran a treat !!
Interestingly again were the cam cover gaskets and o rings that were all hard and knackered , but they were stamped GM ??? Quite a bit more to do but just goes to show that even neglected these engines put up with a lot of abuse .

I just don't understand it. Even if you paid, a minor service wouldn't be expensive. If you changed the oil yourself, it's less than 15 quid with trade club.

Previous owner wasn't very mechanically minded apart from knowing only where to top the engine up 2 pints a week cos of the cam gasket leakage ;D

:o It would have been cheaper to get it fixed. ;D

Luckily it was peanuts to buy , apart from a smoke cloud from the cam covers in traffic it ran faultless ;D Even the a/c is ice cold ! I was expecting worse to be honest but the deeper i delve it dont look too bad :)

Sounds like you've been lucky or you know what you are looking for/at.
I can't complain, my Omega was pretty much scrap value and flew through the MOT, advised on front discs and pads and a crack in the number plate.

Yeah there are some bargains out there , far too many just ran into the ground and scrapped for the smallest reason . Most if not all can be saved even if they are not serviced :y

My mates Honda Civic had never been serviced in his 6 year ownership.
His cel came on a year ago. VTEC malfunction. Check his oil. Nowt on the stick. 2 litres of oil later... ::)
Since then I've serviced it for him and fitted new rear discs/pads and front discs/pads. Wish I'd have taken a photo of the discs...huge chunks missing causing vibration under braking.
Anyway my point is some folk don't give a shit. His argument being his car is just a white good

Scary attitude. I've never driven a fridge 50mph, nor would I want to.
