Now, I am not a tecie so basic language and no shorthand please........ :-* :-*
We have BT Broadband, everything is wireless; Miss Vamps has an Ipad, an Iphone and a laptop, seem to be no problems. swmbo tends to only be able to log on with BT fon, not our router? I have a laptop, no problems connecting to our system.
Printer's, yes we have two because one would not work through wireless, peed off I went and bought another one, was a bugger to set up and connect, but did do so eventually.
Few days ago my phone would not log onto our wireless. Eventually phoned India, he took us through re-setting the router? Everything worked, swmbo was able to connect to our system.
Next day, went to print, nothing, message saying off-line. Unplugged the router? for 15 seconds and hey ho, printer working, same story for 5 days. I should not have to do this everyday surly. Phoned India again, must be our equipment after some tooing and froing he have me the number for BT Tech, rang them and they want to charge me £30 for a minimum 3 month maintenance contract.
I insist it must be the router? as it works if I unplug it for 15 seconds........... >:( >:(
Sorry to be long winded, any suggestions? or could it be me!! and yes, getting another provider has crossed my mind............... :-\ :-\

whats the printer?

A kodak Hero and the new one is a HP Envy............ :)

Accept that all ISP provided "free" routers are shite, and especially shite on wifi, then you can move on.
As a stopgap, set it to wpa (not wpa and wpa2 together), but security is weakened.
Solution, get a decent router. That means about £150+ to get out of the toy range

Are you saying the £50 Belkin,Netgear,Tp link for around £50-£60 are junk :-\

If they work for you, all well and good :y
But they are all sub standard. Some of the TP Link ones have decent wifi, but poor router/modem firmwares. The Belkin and Netgear ones are all quite poor really.

Well.....To be honest I dont find them that great..So Point us to a good router for a BT landline better than them cheap 50 quid ones :y

Depends on your needs BT's HH5 is fine for me, only Sky box hooked up via cable and some tablets/phones via WiFi.

Surprised you aren't using Uncle Rupert's finest? ;)

I will be, for various reasons only had Sky installed at my new place a few months ago. Looking forward to saving myself a £50 month. :o

Should add that 50 bucks is just for infinity broadband!
and people say sky is a rip off ::) ;D

What? :o
I know the current half price offer is £7.50 for Infinity. No idea about usage limits, as I don't use BT here. Or does that £50 include landline rental?

As said, if it works for you (the router, that is, not the £50 for the service ;D) then its good enough for your needs :y
Not tried HH5 at home yet, as the one that was slapped on my desk for me to play with went missing. At least it (presumably) went to a good home. But speaking to those that do use it (or HH4 for broadband lines), the WiFi still occasionally refuses to connect, and the range could be better. Also, occasionally the router needs resetting for other reasons other than wifi. That said, it is one of the better ISP freebies currently (which isn't a recommendation to buy one!)

Need more than that?
What are your needs, and what are the issues you are hitting? If its purely wifi, get a good quality separate access point, but avoid the cheap shite like netgear, belkin, cisco small business (ie, formerly Linksys) etc. The exceptions are some of the TP Link and some of the Buffalo.
If its router stability, you're looking at that those routers aimed at small business such as Draytek and similar ilk

I have had a lot of success with an Asus N66 which I would rate as a middle of the road offering.

So basically £30 for fibre? :o
When contract is out, I'm telling them I'm taking my uncle rupert sponsered tinterweb.
As staff I can't get Fibre free, that's £10/m, but I'm happy to go back to non-fibre, as all I would have to pay a month is line rental.

My Belkin G router works well on wi-fi throughout quite a large house. I guess I have had to re-boot it about once a year as a precaution. :y :y :y

ZyXEL routers are very popular around here with a very good range.
Apparently, they are very secure too ;)

I think that adds a few quid.
Like most things, unless you have specific requirements, shop around, and change annually (assuming you don't get work freebies!) to get the best deals.
I wish I could get fibre for £30 :(
(actually, I could get it for free, but it's not suitable for my needs).

But would you? All those cloud storage services become a pain, streaming becomes more problematic, working from home becomes tedious.....
I sure as heck wouldn't go back to a non fibre line. I suspect once I've tasted ultrafast broadband, I wouldn't go back to superfast broadband, though can't see Brakkers getting that for 2 or 3 years.
