Replaced/fitted the new gaiters over the manual gear leaver and handbrake , had to dremmel the plastic tabs off the gear stick surround then find staples underneath ::) Fitting the new one is krypton factor stuff >:( >:( >:( >:( re stapling would not work so ended up drilling tiny holes and stitching it back on with framing wire :D Handbrake gaiter was easier , should not have to be done again for another 10 years or so ;D
If your thinking of replacing yours , good luck :D

You seem to have made a meal out of it; I had both back on the car in an hour using just some contact adhesive.
The handbrake one went straight on, but the gearlever one needed a bit of trimming around the tabs you cut off, and the seams thinning down a bit. That took maybe five minutes with a single-edge razor blade.
-
Yes the seams were quite tough and struggled with them , the gear stick gaiter wasnt the best fit but looks very good now with a bit of fetling . I didnt think glue would be strong enough so went for the ultra strong method :-X

If you've cut the tabs off, then what holds the gaiter to the centre console :-\

I cut the melted on tabs that hold the surround on , no other way of accessing the staples otherwise :-\

Then the auto surround is rather different as the staples are on the outside and easily removed.
As for contact adhesive, a trimmer would use it for sticking a complete headlining to the roof, or to make a door card. If you buy the stuff in a tin, and brush it on, it's seriously strong stuff!

The set I just bought are going back as the handbrake gaiter 'neck' is double the required size. I see other types available at a higher price, will try again. >:(

Put me off changing mine, I'll just keep the 'distressed' look ;D

I wouldnt recommend the set i bought either , although both
items were well made .. fitting takes some doing .
I noticed the ones taken off were fake leather look ::) Possibly fake for a reason
as they fitted much better .

Did anyone buy the ones made by the chaps I suggested/recommended? If so, then apologies, as bought two or three gaiters off them in the past with nothing but 10/10 for fit and quality :(

Above link all their 'Omega' stuff :y
Note there's a few others listed, contact them with your specific requirements, and they'll make you up the exact thing you're after. Only observation is that the handbrake gaiter in the pics appears to have a tie-wrap fitting. My memory may be failing me, but I'm sure this just pulled on, on the one I bought, though you'd have to ask Paul K about that (he owns the car now) design may have changed, or I'm just not remembering it right (Highly likely :y)
Oh god, if they arrive, they don't fit, and I've got the wrong seller, then I'm up for it! :D

Like everything , its easier second time around :y I'll buy some industrial glue next time though ;D
