Title: Diff oil check
Post by: pauls on 16 June 2015, 22:03:40
Can you check the diff oil the same way as you do with the autobox and if so how and what fluid do I use. I have seen one thread on this but it looks like the whole diff was taken apart.

There's a guide, but yes pretty much the same. Poor in until it dribbles out, do the nut back up.

If you have access to an oil sucker or syringe, remove as much as you can,or remove cover plate and drain, and refill with a synthetic oil.

Or, remove the lowest cover plate bolt and drill this hole a little deeper (with a 5 or 6mm drill) and voila, you'll have a drain plug! A lot less hassle than opening the whole back plate and compared to syringe- method this way you will also get the (most of it at least) dirt out from the diff.

When putting the bolt back in you may wish to put some sealant on the thread.

Could always remove the cover and tap that for a plug at the lowest point :-\

Yes, but your changing the oil anyway. If there's no oil (wince) flush some new oil through first.
