Post by: Crazycarzowner on 24 June 2015, 00:59:10
No tax, no insurance, expired MOT & when I checked him for a license he didn't have one of those either!!!  >:( >:( >:(

Needless to say, he didn't have any car either when I'd finished with him.  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Pretty amazing that in this day and age , folk drive without anything. Maybe the driver had nothing to lose.

Shame for other law abiding citizens. In Spain the fine for driving without an MOT is less than the cost of an MOT.

So Jason, when this happens do you get the urge to shout 'House' down the radio in a Bingo'esk' way?

I had one last week. Following an old car, it looked covered in sap and stuff from a tree and clearly had been stood for ages. Quick PNC - insurance/mot not held.
So stop goes in.

No insurance. No licence. No mot. No tax. And 4 x tyres down to the cords.

Needless to say I seized it S165, and created a nice little summons file which will await the driver at court!

I am all for using discretion but some people are a liability and need to be dealt with robustly.

The funny thing is... Had he given the car a wash, it probably wouldn't have even caught my eye!

Unfortunately the fine for driving with no insurance (& licence) in the UK is probably less than the cost of the insurance

It's not only about money though, Andy B, is it? Don't you get points on your licence (if you have one!) and a record?

Ron.

True ... but if you've no licence in the first place, you're hardly going to worry about points going on it

obtain 12 points though and you'll get disqualified.

Courts can (and in my experience, occasionally do) send persistent disqual drivers to prison. The sad thing is it's only usually for a few days!!!!

My father in law has been to prison twice through persistently driving without a licence. First time he got a month(2 weeks) and he came out and 4 days later he got caught again by the same copper who stopped him before and he got two months(4 weeks). He still regularly drives without a licence and I know for a fact that he's been stopped again and used my brother in laws details. He's 70 this year and his eye sight is failing to but still drives regularly
