Slid off a sun bed through the gap between that back and the base. Landed on its end and juuuuust tipped over onto its face screen first. Should be ok I thought, it's in a case.
....nope, smashed screen. >:(
Anyway, is it possible to get apple parts or will I end up with some cheap copy shite that's the wrong colour/shape/quality/unresponsive crap...?
Functionally its fine, as they often are, touch is fine, picture is fine, responds and behaves as normal. Spelling is, er... Normil too. :P ;) (before stomach pipes up ::) ;D )
Repair looks easy enough going by videos on line, it's just proving tricky getting the glass and digitiser or whatever it's called.
Any experience on here.?

If pic is fine, and touch is fine, can you clarify the prob? Front glass cracked?

Believe glass is bonded to digitiser.... Or are they one and the same?
it's iPad mini 2 wifi only in space grey if that makes any odds.

Ah....the space grey one...they're much more difficult to repair than the black ones...but no quite as difficult as the white ones. Real buggers they are. ;D

Your wrong of course, but they are mostly out of stock. Mostly.

Just had a look at the beginning of the YouTube clip on how to disassemble the screen and digitiser. Looks scary.

Bah, piece of pee. ...hopefully ;D

Hmmm, none genuine it seems...?
-
Never used a genuine part (because they just happen to be priced to make it cost ineffective to repair ::) ) and never had an issue. Only thing to be careful of is the ribbons when connecting the new screen as this is where the majority of assembly issues occur.

Apple want £206 odd to repair in store. :o
There certainly seems to be no way to acquire genuine parts. So pattern shite it is then ;D

Sure we had an Ipad screen replaced for around £30 a while back. More than enough to spend on an Apple device! Mind you, if I hadn't fell arse over tit on it when packing the car for a holiday it'd have cost nothing!

Do you not have insurance. Like protect your bubble,or something similar.

Like house (buildings and contents) insurance? Yes we have that.
...for a £30 repair?
-
Ive just done an ipad 2, £11.50 for the screen, took about 30 mins start to finish
hairdryer to warm the glue, prise as appropriate
clean up,
refit,
job done.
Loads of videos on youtube

Best to get stuck in I say - but leave yourself plenty of time !
-
Piece of Pesh job. :y
...but since cleaning and reassembling the LCD and back of the glass, two bits of goop from the double sided tape have appeared behind the screen. And the menu button is less responsive/recessed, compared to the original. Bollo!
-
Munu button is rubbish. :(
-
Is it on the locating pins properly, recall a little effort being needed on installation to get it right (was on an ipad2 though)
-
The pattern digitizers are never as good as the originals, its very hit and miss on the quality sadly.
-
Will have to check but the old original button looked exactly the same and didn't need any bits swapping over. Location is very tight in that case so didn't see any scope for misalignment. Unless it wasn't located correctly under manufacture. :-\
Pattern parts aye? ::) maybe it's my driving style ;D
