I,ve just returned from a month at my daughters house in Los Angeles, and her next door neighbour(a lady)has a 2005 Pontiac GTO (American Holden Monaro)which is coming to the end of a 3 year lease. She has agreed to sell the car to me in January for the outstanding baloon payment, which works out at about £10K including sales tax. The car has done 25K miles,a proper minter , fully loaded in bright red with full black leather, 5.7 six speed with a 20" wheel upgrade.
I'm going to use it in the States next year for six months or so ,then ship it back to the UK as a personal import ,therefore avoiding duty and VAT.
When I get it back to Blighty it will be a cracking trackday car for me and my son to have some fun in with the bonus of reliability(hopefully)
Got to drive the 'ring in under 10 minutes before I get too old!

Sounds like you've got yourself a good'n there, but presumably wrong side drive when you bring it back to this country. Blatting it around the ring should be awesome!! :y

Theres a guy putting that exact same lump and gearbox (sourced from a Pontiac that fell off a train) in an astra coupe (converting it to rear wheel drive)

I'd love to do the above to my facelift megga, its already a manual.. so just some stiffer springs and slot in either the 5.7 or 6.0 V8
Technically is it possible??, i always assumed the cars were fairly similar Monaro / Omega...
Take it the diff would need to be changed?
I love my Omega, but would love a bit more power sometimes ;)
-
I'd like to do what tunnie suggested aswell sounds good m8 :y
-
Its very possible, the Omega has the Y chassis and so does the monaro so.......would be happy to help somebody with it.
-
not something i can do until after uni, but its very tempting.
Have all the practicality of the Omega, with V8 power which its always needed.
If I did it, personally i would keep things simple just get the engine and other parts needed and no exterior modifications, bumpers, grills, lights ect... maybe a Stainless steel zorst, but no fancy exit pipe, just simple twin pipe like the standard 3.0/3.2's
I'd like it to look as normal as possible, oh and a camera on the back to capture the face expresions of other drivers ;) ;D

That would certainly make a nice "sleeper" ;)

I'll price up a low mileage GTO motor from the breakers in LA when I go back in January, if anybody's interested.I could have it crated up and take it to the docks in Long Beach.
Shouldn't cost much to ship and clear customs and with it being used it shouldn't attract VAT,although don't quote me on that.

We would need motor and associated electrics plus the six speed box and prop.......woudl be easier to drop into a later drive by wire omega....
