Title: Buckingham Palace.
Post by: amigov6 on 08 July 2008, 19:37:14
In a similar vein to dustys food post, i heard on the wireless the other day that HM was a tad worried about the aging wiring @ Buck Pal. Auntie Beeb patronizingly reminded us that the Royals only cost each of us 60p per year but she's asking for funds to re wire the pile. HMMMM. I know she pays tax now, & the civil list has been reduced but as yet i hav'nt asked her to help replace my boiler or pay to have my block paving re laid. ::)

Yes she pays Tax but we don't know how much. Lizzie might only be paying 1% we have no idea. (This is Lizzie Windsor not Lizzie Zoom) :y :y

I though Buck House was open to the public, in order to help pay for any renovations :-?

Maybe she should turn it over to the National Trust like all the other Large Estates in Britain. (That's large houses to you, not council estates) ;D ;D ;D ;D

As it doesn't belong to her .. she can't !!!

Both Buckingham Place and Windsor Castle form part of a trust set up to preserve them both for the benefit of the nation.

So what? We do'nt get to live there. She CAN afford to pay for it so why should'nt she? None of the Royals were elected. I'm not anti Royal but all the time pensioners struggle to keep warm & fed, young folk ca'nt get on the property ladder & the rest of us graft our arses off just to scrape by she can re-wire her own gaff.

I think for all the work she does for charities and uk trade etc 60p is a very small price to pay...

....not mention what she means to us soldiers, sailors and airmen  :y

If Lizzy's feeling the pinch she should ask her son Charlie to chip in for the rewire, his estate has just returned an increased profit compared with last year

I have nothing against the Royals ( indeed my family have been Royalist for the last 900 years or so) .... but Chas and I are heading for a falling out in the not too distant future.

and he gave it all to the country in exchange for his allowance ... he actually loses a shedload doing this.

Trouble is "His" estate was stolen from the country over the years in the first place !!!!!!  Historically speaking)

Buck House and The Queen bring an awful lot of overseas visitors into the UK every year. If they all have a meal, stay in a hotel, use a taxi etc it amounts to a lot of money being generated. I can't think of any other tourist attractions in England that are so universally known. The rewire could keep a few sparkies in work if the building trade keeps on declining.

Some of my family have a military background (Dad RAF) so i understand that point. I'm neutral regarding the Royal family but surely they can better afford the upkeep?

Who would you rather have on our coins and bank notes HRH or gordon robbing brown. That is the basic question.
Our Queen is respected the world over and gives are funny little island far more credit that it is due in the worlds pecking order.
Without the Royal Family we would be as important as what ? who would no we even exist, be fair we can't even decide on a proper name for us. Are we the United Kingdom or Great Britain or the smaller countries of England Northern Ireland Scotland and Wales (alpabetical)
But mention the Queen and everyone know's where your talking about.
Given the choice of the Royal Family or an elected head like brown, I would always vote for the Royal Family.

Mike

Question is, would you pay to re-wire a house you dont own.....even if you could afford it.

We are fortunate to have the monarchy at the moment as they are good for trade relations with the uk (probably bring in ten times the cash they cost in reality).......christ, its not like gordon brown is doing us any favours ;D ;D

More accurately -- a load of large council flats with some big communal lounges!
