so we put the omega in for mot . failed on few bits and bobs but the major problem is emissions. in just 6 months we had brand new full exhaust fitted inc proper cat.everything was great but other week i noticed black smoke, and mot guy did say they noticed black smoke on mot. problem is our budget is tight do a spend a bit and hope or cut our loss's and scrap it ?
co
fast idle was 0.661 should be 0.300
second fast idle 0.639 should be 0.300
natural idle test 0.437 passed
hoping new air filter , oil treatment ? any advice please

Can you post the complete set of emissions readings?

Would "Cataclean" and a motorway burst help here?

Had the same issue, I was five times over the limit, and the fault was down to a misfire, however with a diesel I'm not sure how this could be the issue, even if your glowplugs were completely non-functioning this wouldnt affect the engine once running.
Does it ever get driven hard? (ie: - it should!) often the only time annually a car gets ragged is on the mot, and diesels especially suffer with smoky emissions when you use the loud pedal.
I'm with Mr Bigron on this, Italian tuneup.
-
That's a petrol not a diesel.
For me either the engine is not up to temperature or the CAT is not working.
-
Apologies, I was assuming this to be a diesel... ;D Black smoke that's really not good for a petrol, eek.
Cats not doing much, as Mark says :y
-
You say that but the HC is not to terrible which it would be if burning loads of oil.
-
For a petrol to give black smoke it would have to be running at a lot lower lambda value than that! Not sure where the smoke is coming from.
The mixture control looks fine, CO is out and HC is OK by the skin of its' teeth. I'd agree with Mark's assessment. The cat isn't working properly. If the full exhaust system you refer to included a pattern cat, I'd be wary, as they can be poor quality.
But.. Make sure it's getting up to proper running temperature and give it a cruise at motorway speeds for 20 minutes and you might be lucky.

think its a temp thing car get's driven 10 mins twice a day , spoke to a chap at halfords they do a cat clean service £20 if you fail at mot they give a full refund. so booked it in for tomorrow i will post results afterwards

What does the temperature gauge read after 10 minutes of driving?

update
took car to halfords who do a cat clean service for £20 or free if it fails as cat clean is £14 a can it is a great deal, so they put cat clean in i took the car for a blast (1 hour drive high speeds) brought it back and it still failed, no smoke but very little difference in readings. brian felt cat had a) failed or b) was not a proper job. so i went back to my garage that did my mot and also fitted the cat back in feb this year, he rang supplier who said its got 2 yrs cover and as i had proof from 2 places it failed they will supply a new one free. so its back in this monday for replacement and re-test

Good that they're standing by their warranty. Hopefully sorted on Monday, then. :y
