PFL 2000 2.5 petrol manual CDX estate. I am striving to repair the driver's door strap. Have removed door card. It would help if I could close the driver's door window, but it doesn't work. Ignition on, engine running, the front door windows do nothing. They worked before. Fuse 7 is OK. What could it be?

Fuse #1 ok?

Yes, fuse 1 OK.

Drivers door loom and window switch still connected... ::)

To check voltage to the motors etc, do they wind up with the lock up procedure, ie lock car and hold down remote fob button or key in the door lock
fully left and hold.

Seems to be. The courtesy light remained on until I removed it. I had disconnected the door mirror adjuster, but on reconnecting, it adjusted the door mirror satisfactorily, with satisfying whirring noises.

NO they don't. However the driver's door locks and unlocks, inferring that the loom is connected OK.

Drivers door open or closed? If open retry closed ;)

Drivel removed.
Be helpful, not insulting, or shut up.

Door was open. Closed door, tried again. Window still does not close.
Probably not relevant, but this morning I removed the scuttle, and it is still removed.

Ok, recheck that everything is connected, shut all the doors and lock with the remote... Keep the lock button pressed and report back...

Bugger. Fix the check strap and then deal with thelectrics ;)

Worth popping the drivers door window switch panel out and reconnecting the plug?

Thanks for suggestion. This a PFL Omega. There is no drivers door switch panel, all switches are in the car centre.

My sentiments exactly.
This morning I fixed the check strap, and reassembled the door. Checked the windows, now they work!
I don't understand it, but never mind, there's lots I don't understand. My thanks to all for advice.

This is where having a power probe is a god send (currently learning how to use one properly)
You can search for power and ground and also supply power to components this verifying operation.

Is the check strap the door grounding point :-\ thinking out loud...

I don't think so, especially with the plastic washer at body end it would not be a good choice. When the window finally did close on remote button held down it motored all right. I suppose there is an earth wire in the harness.
Yet there is a mystery why it did not work last night but it does today. Thanks again for your help.

Furthermore, until I replaced it there was no electrical connection via the check link.

If it happens again, it might be worth pulling the door off and checking the body loom carefully for evidence of breaks... :-\

Thanks, will do. I wonder if I somehow upset the central locking ECU by trying to raise the window with a door open, and it went into a sulky routine. I have had similar trouble if I open the boot of a locked Omega with the key. I hate these ECUs with memories. There are ways of resetting memories on radios and CD players, I expect there are on the car ECUs too, but they are not in the handbook.

Just to add, after 300 miles of motoring the windows have nor failed again, so I still suspect some ECU problem. On a non Vx note, last night in the pub after tennis in Oxon, Chris Lowry said he could not stay, his Honda S1000 had a problem, he could not close the n/s window so car was insecure.
