I'm just in the process of changing the rear shocks on my 2001 Elite
estate, but I want to change the coil springs as well. The Haynes manual States you have to drop the rear subframe to do this, is this correct???
I figured it would just be spring compressors but can it be done this way? I

I've always done it by dropping the diff, not a fan of spring compressors :)

There is a guide :o

If there is a guide I must have missed it as I looked. I will have another look

mmm I couldn't find it also :'(.

Found it :D but it's a bit extreme to change a spring, but here goes anyway.
One question though where do you put your axle stands for support??

best way, no compresors needed,
undo roll bar link, undo bottom shock bolt. undo diff blocks, remember to use a jack and stands,
-
Ok, but it still doesn't make sense where to put the axle stands?....any ideas ??

Ok worked out jacking points and both shocks now removed, just sub frame bolts to loosen (currently soaking) and hopefully we are on our way. Well when the rain stops anyway 😉

Its sunny and 22'c here in the land of special water ;D

Shocks off.
Jack under diff, raise 1/8"
Undo rear mounting bolts.
Lower diff about 5"
Carefully lever old springs out... If MV6/Sport/Broken then they should pretty much fall out.
Have an assistant stand on the rear hub
Fit new spring
Repeat on tother side.
Jack diff until rear mounts are in contact with chassis and refit bolts.
Refit shocks (with new mountings)
Refit wheels and drop car.
Job jobbed :y

Well after finding where was safe to put the axle stands the process went simple enough, well except for the shocks not wanting to come free from the bottom mounts. It took a fare bit of leverage to remove those.
So I would definately recommend the how 2 for anyone wanting to change either their shocks or springs.
Tomorrows job is hopefully front shocks and springs followed by cam gaskets. Saying that my daughter is now home from holiday so it will probably be half of that due to daddy this and daddy that but we will see 😂😂😂😂
