Any point in getting one from a scrapyard? 3.0 V6 Auto Elite Saloon.
A few years ago mine started squealing like a piggy. Then the piggy died, and all was quiet again. However, now when the car is first started from cold there is a loud booming that sounds like an exhaust leak coming from in-front of the NSF wheel arch. After about 30 seconds the booming stops, but there is still an occasional sort of burbling/popping sound at tick-over.
I've already replaced the one way valve thing once, and that didn't do much. So I assume my next options are to either block the one way valve up completely, or replace the air pump.
There are a few Omegas in the local scrappies - so opinions please.
Oops - wrong section - can a mod move please.

Sounds like the one way valve might be allowing exhaust gases back up the SAI system plumbing. This will eventually melt the rubber hoses and cause a problem. Given that the pump has already died, I would block the system at the two outlets on the exhaust manifolds and bin the rest of the system. Push a 15mm plumbing stop-end into each of the rubber hoses and clamp the jubilee clip down on it so it's sealed, and remove the metal pipework that runs across the front of the engine.
You need to leave the little vacuum solenoid electrically connected otherwise you'll get an engine management light, but the rest of the system can go in the bin.

But what about the Polar Bears and Penguins ;D
Not really my style to remove stuff - I like to leave things looking original even if they aren't. I'm thinking put a thread up the inside of the one way valve, and then screw a bolt into it to bung it up completely.

Penguins melt in the heat and the polar bear falls off the mint ;D ;D
