Title: GM front pads
Post by: EMD on 10 August 2015, 22:33:35
Ill be fitting new discs in a few months and gm pads , dont think ive ever had the experience of gm front pads , should i experience a sharper feel to the braking and less black crap spraying up all over the front wheels   :-\
Are GM pads the pad of choice  :-\

apart from the fact they were £6 for the fronts (I sure I was getting them cheap??) they were a good pad for the price...brakes on the omega are good anyway...but still got dust etc

There are GM original pads and Trade Club GM pads - I use the latter as they seem fine and cost effective. Reports on here suggest GM original are better, especially less dust.

Have we got part numbers for these? I bought some once but not sure if they're GM or GM TC, just something to keep an eye out for.  :)

I've always used GM pads and again I'm not sure which variety, but have always suffered with excessive dust....  :-\

They seem to stop the car OK though....  ;D

Indeed, my front wheels are lathered too, and it was only a few weeks ago they were cleaned and fitted however, be nice to know whether I have TC or the 'better' pads, to know if I can reduce the dust, or if I'm already on the 'dust free diet'  :)

I replaced both my front discs and pads with trade club bits last year.
Awaiting the abuse here but the pads definitely fade quicker then the pagid pads I had on the old discs  :(

AndyC's quoted prices are retail I believe. Nobody pays that ;)

I use both OE and TC pads, traditionally the OE ones were less dusty, but that is no longer the case.  TC pads lack initial bite when stone cold, OE do not. Other than that, not a huge difference between them now.

Both represent a decent pad, able to take a reasonable amount of abuse (neither will get me across Milton Keynes if I'm running late).

When are people going to BLOODY listern
Use TC pads they are cheap and well proven, I have used apec, fido, mintex, cheap as chips from ebay, and have owned numerous omegas, TC pads work best-is.

Rant over....booger I'm beginning to sound like middle earth ::)

I've used my fair few sets of TC brake pads and I have to say, once you get passed that initial dusty period, you are rewarded with glitter covering the dust and the sound of the youth choir on warm up  ::)

Using the supplied clips will lock your pads out, meaning no rear braking...

As for order the correct kit for a couple of quid, that's £20, from VX only, seeing as how noone has yet been able to actually produce the correct length pins for an Omega vented caliper... ::)

So this fitting kit no good for the rears  :(

The shims are fine, but you might as well give the other fittings to TB given how he gets through rear pads ;D

No end of shit at Christmas time due to no one being actually able to produce the correct dimension parts, inspite of what their epcs were saying ::)

I get a feeling I kept the packaging, given the problems. I'll see if I can find it.
