after youve typed start, run, cmd you get that black box with some writing as you say. The last character will be a > then a flashing line.
Type in:-
ping www.omegaowners.com
then press enter.
It should say something like this

Pinging www.omegaowners.com [217.155.56.220] with 32 bytes of data:

    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 42ms, Maximum = 97ms, Average = 56ms

Jaime wants to know if the long number after reply from is 217.155.56.220 like the one above.

It's called a ping test, basically your computer is asking the OOF computer if its there. The reply from bit shows you it is and tells you how long it took to reply back.
Keep asking questions Guy, we'll get you computer literate yet.

Omegaowners.co.uk resolves to 217.155.56.220

Omegaowners.com resolves to 69.64.155.129. After flushing DNS cache.

I simply changed my bookmark to point to the .co.uk address.

Sorry if I am a bit late to the game, only just checked my email...

DNS server at 208.67.222.222, OpenDNS resolves correctly. 194.168.4.100 (Virgin) and 158.152.1.43 (Demon) both resolve incorrectly. They probably have the wrong record in cache.

I set my own hosts file at work - but trying to work out why my PC rebooted overnight - must have been a power cut - I had left a DOS text editor up and that stops a shutdown

We will be flicking back to our normal URL tomorrow morning.

Those people not resolving to 217.155.56.220 had better make alternative arrangements (such as hosts file if not at work - if at work, do some work instead ;D)

Any clues in the event logs?
