Title: How much does the indicator flasher relay cost fro
Post by: Markjay on 24 November 2006, 13:43:47
My indicator flasher relay died. Went to Vx to ask how much it costs (yes, I know you can buy after-market ones cheaper...). No they didn't have it in stock. Guess how much it is for a unit identical to my 'GM - made in Tunisia' one?

I know how much they are so voted accordingly.....note, VERY rare for them to fail....and normaly replaced in error when the hazard switch gets iffy.

Just noticed that the title is very misleading........it implies you are asking how much a Vaux one is....not how much a pattern one is....coz the pattern ones are 4 quid....

Plus I bet your indicators are simply on and not flashing.......

a. I tried Vx first because the Vx dealer is practically across the road from me, while the nearest motor factor / accessory shop is 15 minutes away... I thought hey, they will charge me £6 instead of £4, not worth moving the car. Little did I know... no wonder they didn't have it in stock, I guess no-one actually buys them for this price.

b. Yes, they were on and not flashing.

c. Tapping the relay on the dashboard a couple of times cured the problem...

But, the question is.....did the relay fix it.......or did wiggling the hazard switch fix it.....

I am sure that bulk of my £29 would have gone straight to the production line worker in Tunisia... who will probably have his/her 13th birthday soon!

From where I stand, it looks as if tapping the relay did it. But then again the key was not in the ignition, so I checked the indicators using the hazard switch, and it is not impossible that the flasher tapping was a Red Herring and pressing the hazard botton a few times is what actually did the trick. Between this and that I got it working again. I actually went to Vx after I already sorted the problem (it only took a couple of minuted to remove the relay and put it back in), I thought that for the cost of a round of beer I might as well have a spare flasher in the boot... not so...  >:(

Which is no good when the real fault is the hazard switch....... ;D

Its quite amusing, seen this a few times, many a relay been changed when the hazard switch is iffy......because when it plays up the indicators don't flash (the indicators are all routed through the hazard switch....)

Had a similar thing on Mrs AA's clit, the indicators stuck on without flashing.

Pressed the hazard switch on and off a few times, cured the problem.

I went to Vx to buy a Pollen Filter aka Cabin Filter.  They wanted £18 inc vat and didn't have one in stock.  I went to Halfords & with trade card discount got a Cooper one for £9.17.  Also not in stock but will arrive on Wednesday.

Make sure it is the proper carbon one that the facelift requires, not the one for prefacelift ;)

It's listed in the guide and on Halfords computer under 03 2.2 Petrol 16v and model is ACE028. Is there a difference in size as it's easy enough to check when I pick it up?

The size is the same and the difference in theory should be that the non-carbon one is white while the carbon one is grey. But strangely Vx fitted a grey looking one to my car that had the non-carbon P/N... and others here mentioned that they bought non-carbon ones and they were grey as well... confusing. At any rate if it is white then it is definitely the wrong one...

This is the correct original Vx carbon unit for the facelift:
