Title: Tolerance and age ...
Post by: HolyCount on 11 July 2008, 22:45:45
Why do we ( or at least I) become less tolerant as we get older ??? I have just been watching an episode of Street Wars where the moronic Yoof were ambushing fire crews and smashing up the equipment and tenders ------ when, long ago, charged with keeping the Queen's Peace, I could tolerate morons et al ... today I would just like to get an ARV deployed to shoot the b*gg*rs.

I tell you -- just watching the prog made my blood boil -- BP is rising while typing this  >:(  I am turning into Victor Meldrew again !!!!!

Going to get a beer ............

i'm not exactly old, but if wearing my lazy clothes i pretty much look like a youth, but they make my blood boil aswell, and its only the thoughts of the consequences that have stopped me mounting the pavement and mowing down large groups of chavs causing s**t near where i live

Our medical callout staff around here travel with an escort and if they are in a house for longer than 10 mins the escort comes knocking!
Its sad that society dictates this level of caution!
Those idiots on the telly want locking in a house and torching, see how it feels!!! >:( >:( >:(

Our fire & ambulance crews provide an invaluable service & despite being underpaid thier dedication drives them on. I've been cut out of the wreckage (legs & chest trapped) . It was'nt just the fact they got me out but the chat & support (& gas & air) when the bodywork was pulled away from my legs, my feet were bent the wrong way & were under the seat & the dashboard was in my ribcage, my face broke the windscreen but they dealt with it & calmed me down.
Looking back (many years ago now) it must be harder for them to deal with mentally, seeing people in such a state & sometimes worse.
They go home at the end of their shift but how can they switch off?

   VERY SPECIAL PEOPLE.

The answer is simple.......

Group of yobs....gallon petrol....petrol poured over yobs......petrol lit.

Firemen stand back and say ""Sorry boys you just smashed up are last hose.""

Now that would leave a lasting impression.

By duty of care do you mean Police involved in the situation, or members of public?

I fully understand what you're saying, but in theory the law states that if in danger, you can use reasonable force. If for example you were under attack, then striking your attacker in the neck to incapacitate him/her would be considered reasonable force and would not constitute an offence in those circumstances.

If they are likely to be a considerable risk to other Members of Public or Police Officers then officers can deploy CS gas and restrain the suspect using a manner of techniques, and as long as there is clear justification as to why this had to happen, the offender's rights have not been breached :y

All very well in theory James but alas it doesnt work like that.

Mums ex was virtually toe to toe with her screaming he was going to rape/batter/kill her spitting as he shouted then lunged for her.

I step in use my considerable bulk to restrain him using minimal force necessary and get stuck in a cell for my trouble oh and a 5 year caution. >:(

No James, I believe that due to the Job description of our FANTASTIC emergency services, The duty of care is incorperated in to it.

As Joe Public, If you stop at an accident and give help/support, then you are bound by the duty of care.

Long time since i had to use it, so things may have moved alittle

Common law can still be applied to any situation, as can C&R techniques if you are trained to use them and have the capacity to make the decision to use it. Unfortunatly most paramedics are not, but, there are trails being carried out across the county. Blackpool i a pioneer in having cnr paramedics and the initial research shows a 70% reduction in assults and violence.... good.... but a shame it came to this !

these lowlife scum drive the law abiding people round the bend (hence one reason for my name an logo) but its these wet lettuce governments that are worse by being soft on this "long time now" behaviour. >:(
and after a year of constant stabbing murders Gordon Brown has only NOW spoke out about dealing with it (probably be to reduce dangerous weapon down from 10" blade to 8"), or decide to put a tax on dangerous weapons-
a gun above 1.7 grams of carbon per 100 shots £100 per year
a knife bought before 2001 is less than a newer one
a dirty bomb is twice as much tax as a intelligent one.
cross bows are eco friendly so are not taxed >:(

I watched it too.
Blame the legal profession and the justice system.Lawyers seeking to create precedents and an totally ineffectual court sytem.
I cursed the minister for "youf " who couldn't hide his pleasure in banning the mosquito device that produced a high frequency noise only audible to people below the age of 21 .This was used to move on the low life making peoples life an absolute misery up and down the country.
What happend to the short ,sharp shock treatment suggested years ago.
I'm extremely fortunate living in an area that just doesn't have a problem with vandalism but on my trips back to Scotland and London I am absolutley disgusted with the total lack of control and justice  meted out to these ferel gangs of youths .How can you instil a respect for the law if it's seen as ineffective and frankly laughable.
I've watched the steady creep of the liberal do gooders for too long now and no matter how you cut it it's just not getting better or safer for the ordinary law abiding person out there .
Whoooww .... now I have to go and sit in a dark room and listen to my running water cd........... ;D

She says I'm getting more like Meldrew every day ;D

Oddly, I don't seem to suffer the same 'rage' as I used to, and am disappointed at work that I am doing all the desk thumping and shouting at the management, rather than the youngsters.

But my patience with people diminishes with age, no doubt  :-[
