On my travels I still see a number of drivers[mainly van drivers it must be said]driving along with their mobile phones pinned to their ears, however what does appear to me to be on the rise is the number of car drivers[among them driving instructors :o]I see driving about looking down as they've got their mobiles in their lap and are busy sending/receiving text messages >:(

I'd barely left the nic the other day, got to the end of the street and voila................numpty on his phone, so he got a dose. I'd only just put me pen away and got another coming the other way, quite blatantly on his phone & too distracted to see a bloomin great baten-burged BMW in front of him. :o :o :o ::) ::) ::)
Will they ever learn????

Oh they do.... usually when a school child gets flattened and they wonder what the bump was. Alas, it's all too late then.

isnt it 6 points these days for a phone offence?
-
Nope, still 3 & £100 fine
6 points for no insurance & £300 fine

Confiscation would be a better measure.
Worse than drink drivers. Often idiotting the kerb or drifting towards you head on.
Im sure the French have a much better system in place.
-
See it numerous times in a day,but seeing a Thames Valley police car in these parts can only be described as a photo opportunity, apologies to Jason because it's not you but the bean counters fault that police services in this country are being cut to the bone ;)
-
It should be 12 mth Ban and Taser them at the scene of crime ;D ;D ;D

They do, depending on the area of France, its €100 fine, and phone is confiscated, or get a bit gobby and phone goes under front wheel, and drive forward. Job done, but effing safty in Blighty means cant do that, here.

Then theres no real deterrent :(
-
At least the french tyre treatment would prevent relapse too soon.
-
It seems that it must be OK to use it handsfree holding it out in front of them ....... ala The Apprentice
I see it loads of times.

It doesn't deter them. I see as many on the phones in France as there are over here.

The other year in France, I saw a young girl riding a scooter and texting ....... ??? ???
-
I've said it before on here...if they reckon using the phone is equivalent to being over the drink drive limit which is automatic ban, then why not with phone use !!!!!
The law is an ass.....

My old Engineering lecturer's grandmother was killed waiting at a bus stop, as a guy who was on his phone drive into her. :(

Just thought i'd add that the pic of the (what looks like a cop) on his mobile was in fact a prop van and actor from a tv scene, he may of done this on purpose to put the police in a bad light,
-

I've seen a real cop texting/interwebing while waiting at the lights. He saw me looking so I shook my head, the look back said f*** you!

To put that in perspective, using a two way or cb radio whilst driving isn't illegal... a natural progression of legal exemption would most likely include any device being used for operational purposes... pdas and the like :-\
