Title: Daughters Polo
Post by: Entwood on 26 August 2015, 21:13:03
Daughters Polo has failed its MOT big time due to corrosion of inner sills around the seatbelt anchorage points, seems to be beyond economical repair as the quotes obtained are 6-8 hours welding at £50 an hour. As it is a reasonably tidy motor that has been very reliable, rather than just scrap it for £50 (telephone offer from local yard) I'm thinking about sticking it on the bay of fleas as "spares or repairs" in the hope of getting her a few more squids.

To get her tax back and to save on insurance, which was due next month, I have got her to SORN it.

Having never sold a car on fleabay, let alone one without tax/MOT etc, can anyone offer any advice on what to say/do in order to a) maximise the amount raised, b) complete the sale ASAP

Any advice gratefully accepted  :y :y

Probably not what you or your daughter want to hear but we we in a similar siuation with daughter # 2,s KA.

I ended up taking a few bits off it that would sell without trouble..radio/cd..Headlights ..back lights..then cut our losses and sold to scrap man.

Ebay will get you lots of timewasters who dont turn up when they agree to...offer you little more than scrap man ,and waste hours of your live.

Do what we did and just cut your losses as harsh as it might sound ,although a VW is a whole lot better than a KA

8 hours welding at £50 an hour = £400

What kind of car can you get for £400?

Tend to get wasters on ebay as already said and dont forget that advert costs you money  to sell  it and if  the buyer dont turn up then its more money to relist it......also you not only pay for the advert but pay a fee on the selling price which you get for the car which again reduces the price you receive...maybe if you want to go that way then try...Gumtree...or others that do not charge for advert and at least that way if you get let down its costs you nothing.. :y

Good welding project for someone...

Any ticket left at all, even if only a few days/weeks? Basically £75 as a total shed with no ticket, £150 as a total shed with a hint of a ticket and possibly a couple of hundred and a very clean but otherwise Mot failed car with few dinks and bumps...

Ebay is fine, but be realistic and consider carefully how you describe the car and where you might list it. Needn't cost the earth either, as car ads are commissioned differently...

There is time to market it for the student market... Local free ads or newsagents window also worth a shout :y

Pity it's not nearer... Would have made a good little project to weld up. I did both sills (inner and outer, both sides) and a good chunk of the floor on my Range Rover, as well as rear arches.
