Title: Car Insurance Cancellation Fees
Post by: Kate on 29 August 2015, 16:56:36
Just wondering whether anyone can help?

I've sold my Omega but hope to get another one in the near future. My insurance is £39 a month but I'm worried about cancellation fees as I've had the policy less than 3 months. In the paperwork it says I would get a 50% refund on the premium.

I've paid 2 payments so I'm guessing I would have to pay at least another 2 payments plus the cancellation fee?

What should I do? :-\

The fee is usually in the region of £50, Ms.Kate.

This is the figure I was given when terminating the insurance on my Omega. Fortunately for me the Signum was also insured with Saga so they didn't charge me.

This is because I'm a very very nice man. :)

I've been using my NCD on another car and central Basingstoke seems to be a high risk area.

And I'm only 21 of course. ;D

Wouldn't that bugger up my credit rating though?

Why don't you ring and ask them what the situation is, Kate, instead of trying to second-guess the smallprint.

I cancelled.my Taxi insurance after three months and the cost was approximately £198, or two monthly payments. I was able to arrange to pay this outstanding amount over a period of time once the numbers were confirmed.

Ring your broker, they will say policy has £X outstanding. This is then less any premiums paid to date and less any rebate due. The final amount owing will be what you pay.

Say £600 policy, paid as £100 deposit then 10x £40 premiums.

After two months you have paid £180. The 50% figure is £300 plus an Admin fee of say £50. You pay £600 - £300 - £180= £120 plus the admin fee, so a total of £170.

Substitute your own figures to give you a ballpark idea :y

Remember insurance is not, and never will be in your favour.
The only difference is insurance is needed to be legal, robbery is illegal, unless its called insurance :)

Thanks for the advice. :y

I've seen a Golf on eBay which I like so I might buy it. It might be cheaper to buy it than cancel the policy. ;D

The events are mutually exclusive. If I buy a Golf I can also buy an Omega. ;D

I went ahead and bought the Golf as temporary transport.

It's a GTi but not a fast car I think. It was only £185 so not very expensive. :y

It's just had a new clutch and the cam belt has just been done too. Just drove back from West Sussex and got 40mpg. Can't complain for £185. :y

Kate, far be it for me to throw a spanner in the works, so to speak, but that car is just too clean to be er.... clean?
The paint looks too 'new' and to my eye not 'Factory finish'. Please check the identification plates & stamps on the vehicle and the engine number to put your (our) mind at rest that the car is genuine & not a 'Ringer' or god forbid, a 'Cut & Shut'!
You can Google for the info to check all the above! I sincerely hope you have bought an amazing bargain Kate and you both live happily ever after! :y
Please let us know what you find, regardless! Fingers & Toes Crossed for you. Kindest regards, Phil. :y

That colour does come up well with only a bit of polish, its an unusual shade but definitely a factory one...

It's not the colour he was referring to... It does seem to be exceptionally good for that money. But bargains are out there :y
