Title: Anyone ever tried Halfords brake pads?
Post by: Webby the Bear on 30 August 2015, 12:44:08
out of interest.

I presume they're awful but wondering if they're acceptable on a town run around application.

just before I get abused for even considering them, I wont be buying them cos theyre actually moreexpensive than Eicher on ECP. But was just inquisitive  :)

Used them before with no issue but may be cheaper elsewhere, never really noticed a difference with general pads, If I slam on and it stops i'm happy

No need for brakes. Simply cut a couple of holes in the floor and stop it  as Fred Flintstone would. :)

The Halfords branded pads ( mintex) where dearer than the original mintex pads from a local motor factor.

Are they still more expensive if you have a Halfords trade card?

Ive had a disagreement with them, but ISTR TB saying that things like bulbs were massively reduced on waving said plastic artefact at the simpleminded merry-Andrew behind the till...

Yeah, I got a Hellfrauds TC card and usually service parts are a lot cheaper.

The pads are £17 so I'd imagine on TC they'd be next to nowt

And the Americans are a world power?
Back on-topic, would membership of OOF count as qualification for a Halfords Trade Card and if so, how do I prove membership?

Ron.

I did try both Halfords own, and the Ferrodo they sell some years back. Shite TBH, though I'd suggest the Ferrodo were a little better.

No. Must give proof of being "In the trade". Either certificates or course enrolment or payslips from a motor trade company. I had to jump through all sorts of hoops to get mine!

If you have a Vx Trade Card that might be sufficient.

Thanks gents. I asked the question because I was linked to Martin's Money Matters when I Googled Halford's Trade Card and it led to an answer from somebody recently saying that VAUXHALL Owners' Club  membership had been accepted, so I think I'll try it on, especially if I can show proof of membrship of OOF - any insignia or documentationavailable, I wonder?

Whilst I'd love to sit here and rip the p*ss out of their staff as MOST of them are utter morons..... theres one lad called Neil in the riverside (n'pton) branch who was an absolute diamond when I purchased my roll cab and tool chest. I wont bore you with theetails other thanthey sent me away with the wrong item twice. he took charge, went himself to go fetch the stuff, opened it all up to check it was correct and undamaged. then he helped for over 40 minutes getting it in my car. if it hadn't gone in he was going to bring it round for me. absolutely top lad. I bust him a tenner for his effirts. top lad  :y

Yep, it's the exceptional ones that stand out amongst the crowd of dross. I do recall your tool chest saga and he clearly deserved those beer vouchers.
