Title: This made me chuckle at work
Post by: Crazycarzowner on 03 September 2015, 20:27:15
Got our new plain car delivered a couple of days back, so I thought it would be rude not to test it out.
Well it was like shooting fish in a barrel  :D :D :D mobile phones galore  >:( >:( >:( >:(

The best one being - Stuck in the 5pm rush, I pulled up in lane 2 to see a young lad texting on his phone in lane 1, so I wound the window down and said "put ya mobile down mate" (was just offering friendly advise due to the traffic situation, nowhere to pull him in and trying to use my discretion) well this young twonk did not want to follow my polite request and by his response had no idea of who I was or who he was giving his fowl-mouth rant to. He stated that he wasn't moving therefore not driving and it wasn't an offense, telling me in no certain terms to jog on!!!  :o :o :o

So I did, 'Jog on' and when we were in free flowing traffic (observing him STILL using his mobile)  I pulled in front of him flipped down my rear matrix board - POLICE STOP sign.............Wish I had a camera  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D should have seen his face  ::) ::) ::)

I'd be tempted to just shoot them. So much more satisfying, so much less paperwork.

Really?!?!?!

Shoot someone over here you'll be guilty before you're innocent writing for at least 3 months & on gardening leave for at least 18 months. Then once the dust settles, you'll never be put on the same unit ever again.

Out of interest, re: the letter of the law how do we stand texting in a stationary car in traffic jams. Or specifically - static traffic, handbrake on, engine off. I'd imagine the law states you're in the driver's seat so 'in charge of the vehicle' end of. But laterally, what's the difference between being  effectively parked in a traffic jam and texting, vs parked by the roadside texting?

Hasten to add:
a) old lecturer of mine had his grandmother killed by someone on the phone driving, and from that day I've always had that anecdote pop into my head every time my phone goes off and there's the 'temptation'
b) I've never answered a call whilst in a moving vehicle, and no interest in doing so, there's always somewhere to pull over in a minute, or hand it to a passenger.
c) if for instance I were texting and driving and someone pointed it out I'd like to think I'm the sort of person who would think 'ah, yeah, my conscience has failed me, you're right, naughty of me, you're quite right, I'll do it in a minute' and not hurl abuse at the person who is only trying to offer help.
d) clearly, as 'c' proves this guy was something of a 'two-hat' and deserved pulling, if you're going to speak like that to people who are just trying to be fair to you.

So just wondering how it differs? Ta  :)

I wish you'd come to Milton Keynes. Updating arsebook whilst driving appears to be mandatory.

Its common on every road every day.
Traffic slows, - phone is ready- traffic stops- phone out arsebook/idiotering- traffic moves- arsebooker still sat there, realised traffic gone floors it traffic stops, arsebooker didn't,  O how I larfed. . :y

It's part of modern life and they should just teach people how to text and drive safely!  :y

Make this a compulsory driving awareness course when people are caught. :y

I'm no expert, but I'd say whilst the keys and the driver are in car, they are in control of that vehicle. Look at people who have left a pub, knowing they've had too much and sensibly slept in the car rather than driving. Only to be woken up by a copper with 'please blow into this box' in his hand.
