Being married to a Yank, one that can put most brits to shame on their knowledge of the UK, i can tell you that there are slight yet significant miscomprehensions possible between the two languages.

Even after 10 years of marriage we are still finding phrases where we have been misunderstanding each other for years ::)

Most Londoner's don't speak English as their first language.

EDIT
Why doesn't she get a job and buy her own expansion pack? No, the yuff of today finds it easier to snag someone in chat and try and get them to buy it. I wonder what she offered in return?   :o SCARY.

I'm also affiliated with an American Woman.  We aren't married though.

The following is from her;

"Americans have no understanding of Geography.  Most don't even have a passport.  Most never travel out of the USA in their entire lives.  I was quite impressed by this girl though.  She knew that England was closer to Jupiter"

..........................

That was the point I stopped listening.  And now I think I'm single again.  :(

The confusion over lbs/£ I can fully understand... But really, near Jupiter? Some parts of the UK are so much closer to Uranus.

We had a 12year old boy stay with us, he came from Los Angeles. A carbon copy of that girl. Also, he had no respect, no manners, no table manners, and was totally illiterate in geography. Would not have one in my house again. He was so rude to my daughter, we had to let her stay at her Nan's until the little sh1te went home.
He came from a massive house, with the usual swimming pool, massive car on the drive, and wealthy parents.

Were you obliged to keep the little scrote at your place for the duration or couldn,t you have sent him back, so to speak. ???

Not that surprising, one of the girls who lives across the road from us (UK born and bred) was talking about her parents going to Belgium on holiday but she didn't know what country it was in......

I'll buy it.

When I lived in Leicestershire , I knew someone who had never been out of the county (not country) and was proud of it.

I get asked regularly by Spaniards "Do you have olive trees in Britain?" No say I. Can't grow in the climate but some people try and grow them in plant pots.

Why should a young kid of the text and titter generation know anything outside of the USA (or their state)?

I'm not saying Americans are a bit dim, but 16/15th's of Americans can't do fractions.   :y

Unfortunately, we had to keep him, despite our complaints >:(
