Anyone know the criteria for a network Q car i.e what the age limit a car can be to be Network Q approved; reason for asking is that a Vx dealer I'm in the process of dealing with is telling me that the car I'm purchasing is over three years old (dec' 2003 model) and is hence known only as an ' Approved ' and not Network Q car and will only come with 6 months AA warranty, although it will apparently go through the same procedure as a Network Q vehicle would go through, just feel I could be getting ripped off here with the warranty side of things!
Cheers Pete

That is how the main dealers I have bought cars from in the past have applied the criteria. I don't think NQ rules have been changed. :-/ :-/

So the sales guy might not be telling porkies then you reckon?

I don't think so, although I cannot seem to confirm it by reviewing the Network Q site. I just know that when I purchased a 1996 Elite in 1999 it was deemed, being over 3 years old, as being outside NQ cover, and the main dealer stated that it would only be under warranty cover. ;) It is worth checking though what the situation is in 2008. ;)

I believe their sites will sell you a car that is over 3 years old, as they once did for me, but you will only receive warranty cover not full NQ protection.

on the windscreen of the car it states that it is a a network q car so i dont know till i speak to the sales man tomorrow

The network Q guarantee is based around the dealer doing the full set of checks and service has to be upto date.
If they find anything wrong they must put it right at the dealers expense i.e. if the disc and pads are mullered, they must be fixed before sale!.
They can then pay a one off fee to Netwrok Q to secure the warranty......hence its generally down to the crs condition, history, work required etc as to if a Network Q Waranty is put on the thing.
No hard and fast rules relating to age from memory.
As you can imagine though, some dealers do try it on with network Q which is why random spot checks are carried out on cars and they get caught out!

Yes it will be interesting to hear what they say. Please let us know what the 2008 policy is. :y

Just checked with my local Vx main dealer on the rules relating to Network Q. They tell me that in fact there is NO upper age limit on Network Q cars, but usually they apply a limit of 5 years, although they are prepared to perhaps extend this for a customer but it depends on the vehicle. :o :o
So it looks as though each dealer may very well make up the rules as they go along, as I think mine did in the 1990s when limiting it to 3 years! Bottom line is your dealer is applying around about the 5 year limit Crusier Link. ;) ;)
-
Cheers for that , however contacted another division of Now vauxhall and they only give up to 3 years and 50,000 miles limit for network Q and appears that it is at the discretion of the dealer, also got out of them , that the cost to them for a car over three years old costs £500 pounds to enable a network Q warranty and £100 if it's under 3 years old, so now I can see where they're coming from, it's all to do with cost!! so looks like I'm stuck with 6 months AA cover , still , I suppose it's better than nothing!

Had a bit of a result today, spoke to the sales manager at the dealership and explained that I wasn't happy about the fact that the car was advertised as a network Q car suggested to him in a fairly polite manner!! that it would be a good idea to supply it with a network Q warranty due to advertising and all that !! and has agreed to it, so a bit happier about the sale now , oh and got them to throw in 6 months tax in the process.

What have you got your eye on Pete? Veccy?
-
Yes Mate, it is a 2003 Vectra 2.2 Elegance, up 'til beginning of this year I had a 2.2 Omega CD and made the big mistake of trading that in for a 1.6 Ford focus, due to trying to save a bob or two on tax , petrol etc, but have to say the Focus isn't as economical as I thought it would be and there's several things that annoy the hell out of me with it and has been in for warranty work several times in the short space of time I've had it and one issue they can't resolve (nothing wrong with it Sir, they all do that!!) and all the dealers I've been to say the same and I know it's not right as I know of others that don't have the same problems, so had enough of it and saw this Veccy and thought , sod it!! I've mostly had Vx's since god knows when ,so feel like I'm coming home as it were (how sad is that eh!)
Cheers Pete

Not sad at all mate, brand loyalty is sooo much more common than anyone thinks, we are all creatures of habit! We shop at the same supermarket, listen to the same music, drink the same drinks, so buying a car from a brand you feel comfortable with is just natural.
You know most vauxhalls will be fairly cheap to run and maintain, dealers are widespread and there (hopefully!) won't be any nasty surprises.
Though I would say, when the new Vauxhall Insignia comes out I think there will be nice number of used vectras coming onto the market. Not to mention the fact that there are already a nice few veccys which are traded as fleet cars, have covered all motorway mileages and have followed correct service schedules, not skimped on maintainence etc.
I would also buy the best spec you can, you deserve it after having put up with a focus for so long! ;D The Elite vectras are fairly well specced with all the toys.
The only thing that springs to mind with the 2.2, which has been talked about on here before, there was a recall on the timing chain if you are looking at any earlier (2001?) cars, it maybe worth a quick message to Mr MarksDTM to get the lowdown on the motor in general.
Good luck :y
-
Cheers mate, you're right about the timing chain issues already investigated that one and apparently checking mine , it did seem to be an issue upto 2002 , but have heard of other guys with later ones having the problem, so will have to keep a close ear on it for any unusual noises etc.

Nice to know Pete that all worked out well in the end; often you do have to push the stealers hard to get what you are really entitled to! ;D ;D ;)

You're absolutely right there and thanks for your help and others on here. :y
