Title: Rust running over the paint
Post by: MonzaGSE on 27 September 2015, 08:28:39
Hi. On My pfl estate the door trims rust. The metal part inside the plastic. While i can live with this as it dont show, the rust is running down the door on the outside of the paint and making what is essentialy a good door with no rust look like crap. This is worst on the drivers door. Any tips to how to remove these rustlines running down on the outside of my paintwork? Dont want to damage the good paint underneath.

Remove door trims. Use a gentle polish on the doors, maybe Autoglym Super Resin Polish. Then some sort of anti rust sealant on the back of the trims, before you refit them? I'm experimenting with Bilt Hamber Dynax on mine, it paints on very easily.

Get the trims off ASAP.

The trims are a snug fit, and as the rust forms, it will without doubt damage the paint beneath the trim.  With the movement of the car, the rusty sharp edges will scratch the paint leaving you with a big job to sort.  :(
