I know this has been covered a thousand times but I cant find any upto date stuff.
Where the best place to by them also what make Gates, conti,vx
-
Amazon have a good one on at present (well, they did a couple of months back, at any rate) for about £50
Gates and Conti as good as each other. Anything marked 'SKF' is fine, as the original GM stuff is, too. There have been issues with a slight squeak emitting from a pulley rubbing on the belt on the Conti kits (wish I'd seen the posts before I bought my Conti kit ::) ) I have a squeak myself, but haven't isolated it as being definitely the timing gear, yet.
Usual stuff, don't buy second hand, because you don#t know when it'll give up. (though my theory on this is the 4 yrs/40k rule is broken down in the following - mileage affects the pulleys, passage of time affects the rubber belt, but don't bet your engine on it, it's just a pet theory of mine :y)
Amazon, buy parts buy, euro car parts. Look out for discount codes. I bought a cambelt kit and added tot he order a brake hose for a few quid, which knocked £20 off the bill, by a 'spend over blahblah and get 20% off type of thing)
Other than that anything under £100 and you're on the money. :y

Have a look in the classifieds, I`m selling my timing belt kit and alignment kit but will split if you like :y

I take it this one will do..

I would say so :y If the backing plate is in anyway different to yours, simply swap the new pullies onto your original plate :y

Absolutely nothing from ebay, amazon marketplace or euroshiteparts. Far too many fakes floating around.
But a conti or gates belt with (genuine) SKF bearings should be fine (assuming not ordered from above).

If it is for my ex irmscher then it would be due in 2016 I think. New engine 2008 and would have had another cam belt in 2012. I can check if necessary.

Yes it is. just getting sorted only got 500miles left if done on mileage.

I understand maybe fakes on eBay...
But surely euro car parts aren't knocking out fake contitech kits!!?
-
Hear what you're saying, I think the concern with ECP is they have a history of sending out the wrong thing, that's all. So you may (and people have) receive a timing kit for a 2.0 Xantia or something. It's said/suspected Buypartsbuy are the same outfit, though. Pretty sure mine was from there, and arrived all fine and dandy.
If I were doing mine now, though I'd get it from amazon for the price. :)

It wouldn't be the first time they have shifted low quality parts as branded. I certainly would not recommend them

Don't you believe it... Quick and easy way to double your margins... More likely to be on an individual store basis than across the board though :-\
