I suppose I had better change the cam belt kit on my Clacton purchased 2.5 estate. Vendor said he had been told by his source in Portugal that the cam belt had been changed, but had nothing in writing.
Is there a current best source?
-
Were ever you have purchased, from before.
Gates or Conti belt, ive always got mine from auto-Vaux is a skf kit, there's buyparts, or Vauxhall world parts, ecp, or a local factor :)
-
Must admit that if I buy one for my car I'll go for one off Amazon[TB will not be impressed]as they're on for circa £50
-
buypartsby :y they do contitech
-
Thanks gentlemen. I used to buy SKF from Autovaux, but they appear to have stopped stocking them. Eurocarparts and Buypartsby sell the Contitech kit for £97.70. Thanks for the Amazon tip, I found this Dayco kit for £57 odd. I did not find any note saying which cars it fitted, but I reckon that all Opel kits fit all V6 Opels.

Nope as some have different set ups bearing wise Buypartby ask for engine number and then give you correct kit.

As you said no details on fitment message them with your engine number and ask if it fits. But as they are not Amazon and only other party not sure they will give you the correct info it does seem very cheap over £150 off :-\ And ask yourself do you like your car because if you fit the wrong one it will fopah the engine. >:(

You can reuse your back plate if it's different and fit the new pulleys to it. :y

Yep recently fitted a Gates kit to the 2.6 Estate - the kit I used (got it cheap) had the adjustable bottom roller, and I had to swap back plate. Timed up ok and no issues to date.

£100 from vx on TC here which seemed ok to me for my last 2

Can't resist a bargain so I ordered the Dayco Amazon kit above, 1 click purchase (unnerving). Arrived today, looks OK, Italian belt, SKF Germany casting, SKF France loose pulley, SKF tensioner. Kit comes with 4 new bolts and a spacer, no instructions or label. Box is labelled VAUX VECTRA 2.5 V6>08300419 ENG CODE. My engine number is 08351850, so sounds OK. I hope to fit it Wednesday, will report back.

Fitted the kit. Some nuts and bolts were hard to remove, so I guess the last cam belt change was in 2005 by Bristol Trade Centre, 100,000 miles ago. I had to use Sir Tigger's trick of transferring the new pulleys to the original back plate, thanks Sir Tigger, then it fitted well. If it goes bang soon I will let you all know, at the moment it seems like a bargain, thanks to Amazon. What will they sell next?
-
I can't claim credit for that, it's just something I've seen mentioned here a few times. ;) The credit probably belongs to Mr DTM. :y
So if it goes bang you can blame him! ::) ;D

I'm personally going for this Gates jobbie....

....as the Contitech we fitted last time is still squeaking after a good thrashing.

Not a criticism, a genuine question - at that price why not just get the GM kit?
-
I assumed GM ones would be astronomical? :-\
-
About the same money :y

Though, still considering the Gates. I've used Gates a few timesa and had absolutely no probs at all. but food for thought :y

That's good as I'm now not fond of those Squealtech Contitech ones
