Title: Emergency outage of server
Post by: TheBoy on 07 October 2015, 18:57:19
Apologies for short delay, but need to shut down one of the physical servers that the OOF servers sit on.

Probably be down for and hour or more, as hypervisor restart is a nightmare :(

Good luck, don't break anything that doesn't need fixing.  :y

Thanks for fixing what ever it was ... one day someone will explain in words of one syllable what a "hypervisor" is or does ... I know what a sunvisor does ......  :)

As an aside .. the site seems a great deal faster and smoother than before .. so thanks again ...  :y :y

Thought it was something i had done, (i,m a complete Luddite where computing is concerned). I was loading an update to my Opera browser at the time. Soon got pished off with that as i was getting loads of adverts all the time,( it as worse than going on Amazon). Went back to my old browser, aahh, tranquillity. :D

I'm sorry to say there will likely be more outages at short notice over next few days, and probably periods of poor performance.

The poor server isn't feeling too well and needs a good kicking bit of love and attention.

We have a 10 day plan in place to resolve the problem, but due to an unknown factor, will involve a few steps of "winging it", but we'll try to keep actual downtime to a minimum.

You can all have a free refund on your OOF subscription :P

Seriously, though, apologies for the inconvenience.

Wasn't worried. knew the technical team were on it, whatever the issue was.

Many thanks for the efforts  :)

Keep up the good work  :y

Yesterday's SNAFU was an unexpected, unpredictable error on the database server, completely unrelated to the recent server work.

All the server monitoring picked it up and alerted me...   ...only my phone was on silent and I missed it  ;D   :-[
