Title: 2.6 v6 manual
Post by: laney101 on 12 October 2015, 08:41:09
bought a 2.6 manual 52 plate elite a few months ago. low milage sub 80k.

cracking car cant fault it does miles and miles effortlessly.

but i have a couple of things. i drove my dads 3.2 MV6 auto other day and wow such a difference more instant response, more torque, goes like stink and is on 130k and just as smooth

when i bought my car  i had the cambelt and waterpump done spark plugs full service gaskets and fitted 2x G cams on inlet as after a lot of reading they where best cams to fit.
after that it just seems flat until around 3000rpm when you actually fell it take off. below 3000rpm its quite gutless i don't know if this is cams, being a manual or  nature of car.

but when i had a 2.5 auto was a lot better low down and my dads 3.2 is better in every respect. this 2.6 seems like something not quite right

can anyone help or advise ??? as motor is nice and don't really wanna get rid.

Was there a difference between before & after cam belt change? Was a cam kit used or just best guess without one?  :-\

Cambelt was done  in garage and they are good trust worthy..dont know if they used a locking kit. I never have on any engine and never had a problem.

But i never drove car before cam change i bought it dad drove it home and it went garage as wasnt using it for A while so got everything i wanted done on it done in one hit .

Multirams how do i check they are working correctly

Checking the multiram: rev the engine, see if the valves operate (open-close).

There are two valves: one is on the intake, between dual tubes, other is on the back of the intake plenum (above the DIS pack).

When multiram is not working properly, car is very underpowered on low-revs.

Are these the plastic valves that kind of look like actuators .. with air lines to them

One one on front between dual pipes
And one at back by dis pack

Can you see them open and close

 .....

There are too many variables when doing a V6 cam belt and it can only be a best guess without a locking kit and very easy to get it a tooth or two out.

yes you can see them move ...... you do need to give it some revs though

Flat at low revs sounds like plenum dual ram not closing. May be stuck or hose off or switch failed. It's hard to watch working on your own. When you have cured it the car will be much improved.
