Ok Yesterday (after 3months of sitting) took out the mig for a drive and first few miles didnt notice it then out of nowhere notice the speedo has a mind of its own when driving, rev still working fine. Initial thought was instrument panel needs a nudge, after a few whacks still nothing. Removed & cleaned connections, still have same problem so dug up another intrument panel to see if current one is faulty, but nope still doing same.
Reason why im now having to point at the abs ecu is i have noticed the odd heavy steering, but then again read up if abs ecu fault then the light comes on, in my case it doesnt stay on.
Any help what it could be, or anything else i could try will be greatly appreciated :y

Speedo is probably donald... not the same as an ABS ecu issue unless the light is on ;)

But he tried a different instrument panel?

Misread that bit :-[
The contacts behind might benefit from some contact cleaner, both on the cluster and the dash end...

The steering is also periodically going heavy, so that points to the ABS system, as that's the common, since it generates the speed signal that both the instrument panel and the servotronic use.
Failure of the ABS ECU is a common problem. It might be on its' way out.
Might be worth getting a tech 2 on it to see if there are any faults stored in the ABS ECU. Odd that the warning light doesn't come on, though.

Thanks for the promot response guys :y! Just a thought read somewhere about abs sensors on the rear? could they have gone dirty/sticky/corroded/faulty as car was sitting for a while. Just want to be sure before putting up a wanted ad.
As for tech2 Kev, no ones local to me.

Zirk might be able to help with the diagnostics :y

Do the omegas have speed sensors on all four wheels or only the front 2! :y

Ecu averages it from all four...

Thanks :y, been to the local garage who has tech 2, no faults stored apart from the usual 0420/0430. Back to square 1 :(

As some might have noticed put up a wanted ad for abs ecu unit and got some response (phew).
Now the question is do i choose the unit that matches my engine/gearbox or choose the unit with the same part number? ???

and then bleed the system with Tech2 to open the valves :-\ :-\ I think :'(

Why is the Tech2 necessary? When I changed my ECU/valveblock we bled the brakes normally.

Is the abs ecu not a simple plug & play?

I replaced the entire assembly as the fault codes related to the valve block, so had to bleed the brakes. If you just change the ECU then bleeding won't be necessary. Considering how bad the access is for a theoretically simple job, I would not attempt to change the ECU in place. But then we all have a different opinion of difficulty and what we will put up with.

Nick when you changed the unit did you match the part numbers or just go withone thats from a similar vehicle?
-
The unit was from a similar vehicle, so the part numbers matched.
I was prepared to remove my faulty unit and have BBA(I live near them) repair it, but DBG on here managed to find a used unit that was a fraction of the price; the valveblock repair is expensive. I kept the faulty unit in case I have any problems with the replacement.

Lucky your not in the dilemma im in?
Big Al has a unit from a 3.2 auto but P/N are completely different.
fleabay has 1 unit the P/N match but its from a 2.6 (also listing states manual ???)
What would you say is the safer less headache route :y
-
I would probably go with the unit that matches your car as the programming is more likely to be appropriate.

Thanks Nick, appreciate the help :y

Had to do mine earlier this year. Ecu part number I used to search for was under the ecu unit, near the wires feeding the pump. It was difficult to read when on the car, had to get underneath. got one off a member on here. It was off a manual, mine is auto, but engine size and year matched. It made the lights go out ok, but programmed it for auto anyway.
