I have just updated the laptop from Windows 7 to 10 and now, after booting, and screen looking ok, I then get 4 error boxes pop up stating.....
C:Windows\system32\NvHotkey.dll .....the specified module cannot be found.
the other three are ...NvMctray.dll...Nvcpl.dll...Nvsc.dll
Never had any of this when I updated this computer.
How do I correct this, please :(

These relate to Nvidia so presumably you have a Nvidia Graphics card of some type.
Go to the Nvidia site and download the latest driver for your hardware and install it, it should sort out your problems.
If you`re doing it manually then you need to make sure you choose the correct operating system and graphics card although there should be an option for it to check your gpu and install the correct driver.

Windows 10 won't run on my old computer because the Nvidia graphics aren't up to it....so it tells me. :(
-
Just went to Device Manager, and for display it says Microsoft Basic Display. No mention of Nvidia. :(
Just looked in control panel, and there is a Nvidia icon, but it does not work. I am sure this laptop had a reasonable (at the time) card. The laptop is an old Dell M90 Precision gaming laptop, but I like it...never been a problem till now. >:(

Laptop or desktop and how old?
You may need to intstall cpuid to see what you have got but it might be easier just to go to the Nvidia site.
It is possible depending on the age of the gpu that Nvidia don`t support windows 10 on your gpu.

Try HERE (http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us)

No luck, and due to time restrictions, because I need to take the laptop away with me for a month, I have gone back to windows 7.
Checking now...it does seem there is a Nvidia FX2500M card in this machine, but I can't find it listed at Nvidia.
Why would windows 10 take the Nvidia card out of the device manager. Also...if I try again with 10, how do I get the laptop to recognise the card.
Sorry for lack of knowledge on this subject :(

After reading Mr Gav's post, I'm downloading 10 from the Microsoft site, and then gonna try upgrading the driver for Nvidia. I tried installing the driver for 10 first but my system was incompatible for installation.
Tbh, I'm not that bothered, but I do like a fiddle. :)

Device manager doesn`t go by the manufacturer only by device, if Nvidia don`t list your card then you might be out of luck but as graphics cards of the same model series are basically the same jus with some of the cores disabled for the lower end models you might get some luck trying a driver from say a FX 2700 for example.
You can down load the driver to a usb stick and then install it from there when you`ve installed windows 10.
I`ll have a look around and see what i can find out and I`ll give a few suggestions but won`t be tonight ;)

Always download gpu drivers from the manufacturers site, whether Nvidia or AMD :y

Terbs, did it actually activate Windows 10? If yes, don't *EVER* dick around with upgraded OSes, blow it away and reinstall Win10 from scratch, win update should eventually find the right driver without having to resort to manufacturer drivers (although laptop is more of a grey area as nobody releases laptop drivers). You should know this ;).
If you suffer CBA, Win7 is good til 2020. If you want a Win10 laptop, wait a few months and then buy one :y

It's nearly done...getting really excited now... ;D

Oh, and unless you have a very specific need for a discrete GPU in a laptop (and about 99.999% of us don't), NEVER, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, EVER buy a laptop with one. Leave that for the mongrels who buy Acer junk ;D
Because I follow my own advice (sometimes), I'm laying in bath with my 8yr old (non consumer oriented) HP laptop, running Win10, enjoying a boot time from cold of sub 10s, no issues. Admittedly, its on its 3rd battery, but it does get an awful lot of abuse.

but I do like a fiddle. :)
That combined with your avatar is scaring me :o

your chip is a 10 year old unit that was made for dell its a quadro fx2500m so when you go to the link mr gav gave choose the quadro and there is a list of fx chips there to try, i say to try as it wont list the 2500m but there is the 3000 that may work
