That was very interesting, "btc"; does that mean that I can get a copy of the log book for my very first car, a 1938 Morris 12 (NOT purchased by me from new!) even though I no longer own it? Apparently, it is still alive and well - I wish Omegas were as long-lived!

If he has no V5, just make sure he is the owner.

As far as I know, Ron, the logbook for the car belongs to the owner and has to be passed on when it's sold.

Yes, that is indeed what happened when I sold it many years ago, but as this topic had been raised, I wondered if I could get a copy, simply for nostalgic and sentimental reasons - I LOVED that car, but sadly it died beyond my technical and financial ability to repair it.............

Ad just states no logbook , its been off the road in storage for a long time so i suspect its been passed on to the seller without documents  :-\

I belive when you apply for a new log book DVLA write to the previous owner to confirm they no longer own the car

They do indeed, and if no response from the previous owner within a set period they allocate a new Log Book to the request new owner.

Could be the Log Book details are 'In the Trade', if its been in storage, the Trader can't legally or physically Sorn it, also if its been untaxed for a while in that state it will drop off the system after a time and will come up as unregistered.

Could also be the Seller isn't the legal owner and or registered keeper, or someone has taken out a log book loan on it.

What ever the reason I wouldn't be parting with any funds without doing a full HPi and Vehicle history check.

When filling in form don't you need to fill in chassis number/reg.number? Trying to recall from when I've done it in the past.As said a H.P.I. check could be a wise move.
