I think Omega HID was 4300 on standard bulb,5000 is about it before it starts going blue/purple

The lower the figure the whiter the light, so Chavs go for the 12000K and we stick with OEM 4300K  :y

Lower is warmer, higher is cooler - 4300K is OEM as stated above.

Nice chart here: http://www.3drender.com/glossary/colortemp.htm

Please don't fit after market HID kits unless you are going to put in place all the antidazzle measure required on OEM - otherwise you will be able to see and everyone else will be blind.

Agreed. I think it can be see as officious of me when I say this, but it really is, in my humble, 'not cool' to drive about knowing you've got lights dazzling every oncoming car.

Never knew how the numbers worked re: the amount/colour of light etc, nice to have learned something  :)

Hmmm...Interesting. None of the Vectra boys speak of dazzling oncoming traffic with aftermarket HID kits.

the kits are illegal to fit to halogen bulb reflectors,if you blind someone and they pile into you the insurance will take a dim view(pardon the pun) if they cotton on

If I've understood it correct, the issue is if your Omega doesnt have the HIDs from new, then you've got 'manually electrically' adjustable headlamps (ie: for when you have full boot, obese relatives etc) this is bad enough if adjusted wrong when you're heading down the road with Halogens, however, once you stick Xenons in the mix, if you get the height/angle of beam wrong, then you're dazzling every oncoming driver (and the guy in front of you, of course, via his mirrors) The auto-leveling system is exactly what it says on the tin, automatically getting the level of the beam correct, nomatter the load on the suspension.  :)

It's a legal requirement for any brand new vehicle with HIDs to have an autolevelling system, and therefore so, too should it be for retro-fitting.

Can't say why the Vectra boys don't seem to care about dazzling other road users, perhaps the wearing of baseball caps in conjunction with consumption of Stella whilst bathed in blue LEDs causes detrimental brain activity...  :)

Didn't the VXR / Police Vectra's have HIDs? ...If you could find one being broken for parts i'd have thought these would fit the Signum even the leveling sensors etc..  Although i'm sure if you can even find one being broken they'd be expensive :-\

4.2 - 4.3k is considered the best for illumination.  Higher is for the Corsa chavs where style far outweighs any performance.

Obviously, HID kits are definitely on the wrong side of dubious when speaking about legality.  They are specifically mentioned as being outlawed in DfT guidance.

The Vectra boys must be a motley bunch of reprobates. ;D ;D

They seem to be saying "what's the problem dude  just fit the kit, it works with no problems whatsoever"

Is retro fitting HID`s illegal yet?

I know there was talk of it being outlawed hence the kits being flogged off relatively cheaply nowadays but I thought the DoT were waiting for some ruling from Europe before making a decision.

Maybe some of the guys in the trade can shed some light on the subject  ;D

DfT's stance is they are definitely not legal.

Plenty of those around here! 03 Transit Tipper (I'm pretty sure 8000K HID were not factory option) on the way home tonight totally blinding everyone!

The whole car lighting law needs a massive update to properly account for HID / LED etc - things have moved on

You can update the law all you like, but if there's no one to enforce it, what difference does it make?

Did previously suggest buying a complete plod car straight from plod. That's the only surefire way of ensuring all the bits required with minimum of fuss... ::)

And the hassle trying to retrofit them to a Vectra-C?

//TB rubs his hands, dusts off the Tech2, and $ signs appear in his eyes ;D

Looks like "My Naff Code Reader"/Tech 2 is required to activate aftermarket HID's.

How much do you normally charge TB?

.......and how much do you charge if I let you shag my edible sister in law?..... ;)

Same engine, fiiting should be plug and play with the appropriate control modules in place :y

Actually the plod engine ecu would help kill the gearbox in short order make it sit up a bit... :D
