Title: This is tempting
Post by: 2boxerdogs on 27 December 2015, 11:44:25
Took the Merc over to Norfolk yesterday as we were visiting friends , and David a longtime friend was keen to see my latest purchase, took him for a spin & he was really impressed with it performance wise & general all round condition, he then took me by surprise & asked if I would sell it to him he knows what I paid for it, and offered me £1000 more. I said no but he has e- mailed today offering £1500 more than what I paid ,  have again said no as I really like the car but am I being silly ? One of the reasons being he never looks after his cars he has had several really  nice cars over the years but all have been neglected, his C class Merc which he bought new in 2009 has never been back to the dealer for a service, & his wife's Seat is exactly the same ,where as I really look after my vehicles .Bit of a quandary as £6750 would buy a good V8 , any thoughts guys ?

If you are satisfied with the car and like it yourself then better the devil you know..so to speak....however if you realy would like that nice v8 then take the profit you would make, providing the price is correct and above  for the car and then go find the car you would realy want to own and drive..... :y :y

Keep what you have,as you treaked long and far to buy it ,and sure the price wasnt the only factor you bought it.

Why go through that again if you are ,as you seem from previous posts, happy with your new car .

CLS 500 with the later 5.5 litre lump (2007) can be had for a few bob more than this. :y

The enthusiasm and happiness you have for the Mer is obvious in your postings. If you sell it to him,  for one thing you're very unlikely to find another one in such good nick. For another, when he neglects it you're going to get cheesed off with him, its only natural.

Keep it and find him one thats not as mint and you won't be attached to.

£1500 profit on a £5k car?

I would have had him give me a lift home in it!

Why doesn,t your mate look after his cars better? He must have more money than sense ;D. Also ,as said, if you sell it to him and you go back to visit and see it neglected, you,ll think, what a waste. Still, you could enjoy the dosh i suppose. :-\

Thanks for your advice/comments ,have replied to him saying that I will not sell as to find another like it would be impossible , however if he wants to look for one I would happily assist , can't  be fairer than that.

The Merc is kept in a heated garage covered with a tailored MB cover, will be serviced as per schedule with only genuine MB parts ,what in your opinion am I doing wrong ?

Maintaining the official service history in order to preserve the corrosion and Mobilio warranties.

I recall you saying that it mattered not as in fifteen years time you wouldn't care. So you why not sell it for an easy £1500...

Makes no sense to me ???

Your comments in my opinion reveal a tad of jealousy , you do not know me or anything about me  the car will be as I said be maintained correctly by a MB specialist in Peterborough who looked after my 190e he is highly thought of by the MB owners club , as for the bodywork the car has no rust & in my opinion will not detioarate in my ownership, however if it did I am fortunate enough to be able to afford to have it repaired correctly, I do not need to make a quick profit , I simply wanted sensible replies as we're provided by sensible members on here .

No green eyed monster here... If I were spending decent money on a keeper Mercedes then it would be either a W116 or a W140 ;) yours wouldn't have got a look in on my short list fwiw.

Thanks, GastromonicKleptomaniac , this also seemed the ideal solution to me, he has contacted me tonight & will be searching for either one like mine or an E55AMG, I tactfully advised that an older Merc would require proper maintenance & that I know of an excellent specialist , he agreed that this was good advice & he really should look after his cars, so the search begins , I am looking forward to it I must admit.

I'm with nick on this "SELL IT"  plus the refund from dvla, there's another £200. So its £1700 profit, simples. :)

I'd be contacting the vendor you got it from... Sell this one for a profit and get another from him :y

Going by your previous posts, you love the car, so why sell it ? You might find another and end up with some wedge in your pocket, but you might not necessarily "click" with the next car the way you have with this one.
If your really happy with the car and don't need the extra money, keep it, imo.  :y

You're quite right STEMO  no good in ISA's better spending it, next change will be the Terracan , always hankered after a Toyota Land cruiser so that's next on my list.

No will definitely not sell it, just too good to let go & for what I paid for it I consider it an absolute bargain buy, I do like looking for vehicles & will enjoy helping my mate to source one, don't think  we will find another one with 30,000 miles & documented history though. He has a good budget so even if a little work is required ,we could do OK.
